Importers License
Post 1 of 5
I've been trying to find information on obtaining an importer's license from the Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, but couldn't find anything. My question is, if I want to buy scrap metal from Cameroon, would I need an actual importer's license? Also, would it be my responsibility or my agents/broker?

Actually you need no Import license for the U.S. but your supplier may need to have an export license.  Also whose responsibility something is, actually based on the shipping terms.  therefore if the terms were FOB you would be responsibile and anything less than DDP would be your responsibility as your company would be making the entrance into the U.S.

If you need some additional help you probally want to make contact with www.cam-usa.usas a guide to help you with knowing the company and their ability to export.

The seller gave me an email address to the Cameroon Chamber of Commerce, and told me to contact the address about obtaining an importers license. The only problem is its a yahoo address, so I'm thinking its a scam. Anyone have comments about this?

  1. If your buying goods to be imported into the U.S. you need no import licesnse from Cameroon.  Truely this so called supplier doesnt know his......from a hole in the ground.
  2. If you dont want to believe me call a licensed customs broker.  you can get a list of licensed brokers from the port authority where you intend to import the goods.

John N - His Chamber of Commerce has nothing to do with clearing US Customs, you as importer on record will be responsible.  As Ranger said I also don’t believe you need a license for the product that you have identified and your best bet is to hire a Custom House Broker in the that can help you go through the process of clearing US Customs. You will be glad you did.
