Jatropha is easy to plant, 3 months is all it need to produce some full. 1 years and it is near maturity. each seed is capable to produce 30%-40% of oil.
Cost of production is minimum. Seedling is cheap (less then 1 USD/kg).
Land for growing is even easier to find. Unlike other crops that required good rainfall, fertile ground, regular fertilising, Jatropha grow in any environment. In fact, Jatropha is most productive in environment of low rainfall, arid condition, even in loose soil ground.
Compare to Palm, which can be harvested minimum after 5 years, Jatropha can start to generate income within a year.
Farmer can start planting in farm that is rejected by most crops. Land can therefore be fully utilised.

I am in total agreement. All I have researched about Jatropha indicates that it is an excellent plant for biodiesel. In fact I have been going crazy trying to find real suppliers and not frauds in Nigeria, Cameroon, India and China but so far I have struck out. Two in Nigeria, Oil Images and Mr Texaco will not give me any of their customer's contact information that I might check to see how they feel about doing business with them. I will be posting about such frauds as I find them out.I do wish for you to contact me. I am relatively new in the forums and I don't know how much info I am allowed to give here but my contact info is (no contact info please) Please mail me asap with any legitimate companies you know that I might do business with them. I truly am at my whits end about honest suppliers of Jatropha oil or biodiesel.
I hope I won't get in trouble for sending this ,this way.

For those who are seriously interested in investment in this crops, I have just recieve info from Cambodia, that a land owner of 10,000 hectares is interested in a joint venture project.
He has the land and will work with the right person who wish to farm this crops.
This information is through a friend of mine, but still I would suggest anyone who are really interested to practice due dilligent in this project.
The cost of farming per hectare per year are actually very cheap, approximately US$500 per years (base on year2006) calculation. These inlcude seed, planting and labor.
I will suggest or invite interested party to my friend farm in Indonesia to learn all about Jatropha first before proceeding. This is a free service, you only pay for your own expense.
Please keep in mind that con people are all around so have some expert opinions sought and no upfront money is to be paid, for this project at least.
If in doubt, consult.
I know someone who is key in its introduction on the Kenyan market.
However the teething problems he is facing seem like a familiar elsewhere. I've been keeping an eye on it and would love to travel further afield into the neighbouring countries to see their progress.
If interested I could give you contacts for this fellow as he is very positive about its advantages and does sell the idea wonderfully.

I am just a co-ordinator (a volunteer) because of the fact that I felt it is a worthwhile clause.
would like to sart jatropha project. Planting the crop, harvesting and buying machinery that processes bio-fuel.
How much will it casot me and what is required. Send quotations of the whole project.

I have found from wikipedia some excellent information on this wonderful little plant. It seems that under the right conditions it is able to produce up to three harvests. What exactly those conditions are I am unsure.
I am located in Southern California where it is a Mediteranean type climate, also arrid. I am very serious about starting a farm in the furure since it seems that this is an excellent climate to do so.
They are also growing it in Texas and Florida, USA. I still am trying to find an honest grower, and will continue to do so until I get this little venture going. I have had several other small companies contact me for a possible cooperative effort. We all wish to produce biodiesel.
I want to thank any of you for your kind encouragement and information on this.

You are very right, Jatropha can be harvested up to 3 times per year. It depend very much on soil condition, climate and fertilizers.
If the condition is right, 3 times harvests is not an problem and the volume of harvest is also greater.
I couldn't tell you more, but you can contact my good friend in indonesia, they have large farm there and have done lots of research and also have with them many expert. If there is any interest, visit their farm to learn more.
The problem with planting in Texas or Southern America I think would be the climate. Of course the plant will grow, but during winter, the plant will lives because it is very hardy but I doubt you can have any harvest then.
One more important aspect is the pruning. The shrub needs to be prune to ease harvesting and to control growth. Nursery job for the first three month of their growth is very important.
