Does "trustpass" give buyers any security?
Post 1 of 14

I am a potential buyer from UK of electronic goods.

I have spent the last month speaking with companies in China, and then read this forum.

I now don't know what to do! I have read scam artists lists, complaints etc., and some of the companies suggested to be scam companies are infact trustpass companies.

Doesn't Trustpass stand for anything?

or does buyer really beware (irrespective of status on alibaba) be the norm.

Many thanks,

Graham

Nope it sure don't.  If you knew the process for verification you'd be appauled that they could even call it "Trust Pass".

Gold Supplier status and Trustpass mean nothing as far as reliability of suppliers.

The only notation at alibaba that may be helpful for you in trying to determine reliability is the length of time that a company has been a member here. It does not mean that they are definitely a good seller but if they have been selling on alibaba for many years that is a positive.

Other than that you should do your own due dilligence on every possible seller before sending them money that you can't afford to lose.

you are right!!!!
NOT ALL gold trust and gold members are good, Alibaba is selling this title in China, any company rpovide legal documents and pay the money can get this titile. being careful in business is always the best solution to prevent scamming. the best way is to find a good person be your agent in local.

Hi Graham,

Aboves are right, trust pass worth nothing but 600USD/year.It is just a name of membership, does not mean real 'trust pass'.That is also why you have seen lots of scammers were trust pass members.

I suggest you to try inspection, but precondition is your order and budget are big enough to charge the service fee.

If it does not,ask supplier offer a reference customer for you.Or search on internet for someone whom have bought goods from your supplier by yourself. You could not guarantee your order quality, but you can at least know the company is real exist and able to solve problems of your order. This is your second choice.

If supplier does not like to offer reference customer, you ought to beware to deal with them.

Take care.

Sid

Dear sir,

I think you should make decision with neutral opinions.

Paid members on Alibaba.com passed verification. This means that they are legitimate companies. However, can we make sure that all legitimate companies will not be involved in fraudulent case? I think no one can 100% guarantee it.

As market and demand fluctuates, maybe someday, one company goes bankrupt due to fewer demands from market. Thus, they can not provide you products. Can we call it fraud? Of course not.

In this case, you may know, business is always full of risks. You may chat with the vendor profoundly and call them or visit them to know more about them. Meanwhile, you may ask Alibaba staff about a certain company's reputation for reference.

Above is my experience. Hope it helps you indeed.

DADA,

Your statement is patently FALSE.

TrustPass members are NOT confirmed as LEGITIMATE by Alibaba.

They are only verified that the company EXISTS! Alibaba makes NO ASSURANCE OF LEGITIMACY! of the products/services/ people involved in any way shape of form

Get your facts straight!

having gone thru the trustPass verification i can attest to the fact that the system provides NO SAFEGUARDS AT ALL! for a buyer

I think trust pass is a load of ****, im a distibutor wanting to list my products but i refuse to pay that rediculous $600 fee. My inbox is empty, even my bulk folder! Is disgusts me that so many Chinese companys are scammers and making a fortune, when honest hardworking people get next to nothing in queries! I am so dissappointed in alibaba. I would have thought the best way to verify a company is to do it yourself, like in the UK we have companies house. So unfair [em4]

The verification is to testify to the legitimacy of the subject company, i.e. that this company physically exists. TrustPass logo does not say that it is 100% safe to trade with the supplier. A little common sense would save you a lot of trouble actually. When you are offered something at a price insensibly below the market level, for example, trust your common sense which says there is no free lunch instead of relying on the TrustPass logo and then calling it nothing after getting into trouble.

Trust Pass HK Team,

That's a very unsatisfactory explanation on your part. The only benefactor to all this

TrustPass and Gold supplier stuff is Alibaba.com. That's like charging a leg and

an arm for the cake and then giving it after having eaten half of it.

What sense does it make if someone pays you for membership and then proceeds

to rip off products from Apple to Nike to SanDisk ??

Alibaba.com needs to clean up its act. That's the reality of things here.

Maybe you guys need to set up a monitoring unit after confirming Trust Pass/Gold

suppliers contracts and eject all the bad eggs. Sure, it will cost you but your reputation

will be greaty enhanced in the long run as a B2B site that actually cares for its

community - and not just the revenue they bring you....
