Trading 101:email address
Post 1 of 18
I realize that many people look at email addresses as a criteria for assessing validity of a  company. Many companies that i know of have a specific email address which is tailored to their website but i need to remind people that some people prefer to use free/broadband email addresses because they offer so much more storage space compared to any email service offered within their own country.

I was actually suprised to know that in Hong Kong many use business email addresses which are gmail or hotmail based. When i went into a store to enquire about their broadband service they told me that i should get a gmail account if i wanted more email accounts.

I have a tricky solution to this, i have my company email tailored to my company domain name and i use email forwarding.. all emails sent to my company email address are redirected to my gmail account, though the hosting company does offer the webmail but i just prefer to use gmail for various reasons... one of the reasons is that it's virtually unlimited to store as many emails as you can.... Well, it depends, I use yahoo for personal emails, and official email for official purpose.

I do also have one rediff account, which I use to store my password. [em31]

Hi,

I am one who will assess the email address to valid if a company is worth dealing and how much effort my staff should put into any enquiries. We also do background checks as the internet are fraud with scammers.

The way i see it, if a company is not willing to invest a small amount of money for a domain name and email then i don't see how they can have a long term partnership. On top of all this a serious buyers or reasonale size company may have email filters blocking free email account from entering the corporate network. So your quotation or message may not be receive by the intended recipient.

Of course on the other hand, once you are familiar with each other then any email is fine. But I would suggest for the initial stage, you should use a corporate email account.

As mentioned already by Anshu your can redirect if you need the extra storage space.

Aileen while hinet maybe a paid account the domain does not belong to your company. If my company is called abc ltd I would register an abc.com domain and have my email use that instead, not only does it appear more professional but a client wanting to find out more about your company would search abc.com if the look for hinet.com they will see it has no relevancy to your company's product offering. Therefore, without knowledge they will be force to believe that it is also a free account.

To register a domain name and open a corporate email hosting is cheap and easy. Well worth the investment. Why take a chance when the cost are so minimal?

Hope this helps.
