How to beat outrageous high cost of calls from landlines to mobile phones in Australia
Post 1 of 2

When you compare other countries, we Australian's are being screwed with some of the highest mobile call costs in the world by our bloody Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and others.

Until earlier this year calls from our desk landline phones to mobiles had cost us a virtual fortune. It got to the stage where one was terrified to call a mobile from a desk phone.

At first Skype look promising at about 12 cents per minute for voip computer broadband calls to mobiles within Australia (or about 1/5 of usual cost) until we really did our research and discovered Go Talk.

Go Talk has several voip plans. We picked the higher cost one where we can make 200 calls to mobiles anywhere in Oz and the world for a flat fee of $25 per month ,,, and that fee also includes almost unlimited local calls as well as calls to landlines anywhere in Oz or the world.

We actually got two of those $25 plans so now for $50 a month, we have near unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines anywhere in the world from our desk phones ... wireless connection from modem to desk computers ... USB plug in phone.

They also have a $14.95 plan for untimed calls to any phones only in Oz which would be enough for many.

And, they don't lock you into long terms plans ... it's just monthly where you can cancel at any time with no penalty ... which tells me these guys are fair dinkum.

At first, we had lots of trouble finding a USB phone to sync with Go Talk ... tried several expensive wireless models ... until we found the cheapest $40 USB candy phone from Harvey Norman works perfect.

We find Go Talk's voip voice quality is even better than Telstra fixed line in our location (save where only an occassional call is blurry but for only the first couple of seconds).

So, in my books, Telstra can now go get screwed. Our office phone costs are down by 90% and oh what a joy it is to talk to a mobile anywhere in Australia or the world without giving two hoots about the length of the call. Darn side quicker to make calls too ... just click a number from the address book on the computer screen and bingo the call is made.

The worst it will cost you kick off is $14.95 for one month plus $40 for a USB candy phone.

Never thought I'd do an advert for a phone company but there you are! [em1]
