Expose of China product quality
Post 1 of 14

With years of working in factories. there is a way to expose the quality of China product.

You would only know to cut price, throw order at the factory, and start production. But do you know how many defective goods there will be in your orders?

You may say that you have sent one to inspect the goods, and are told goods are OK,  but actually, who knows they are really ok?  only the factory themselves know this. When your inspector comes to inspect the goods, the factory have prepared the ctns which are in good quality(select from all bulk) to be put before inspector's eyes. in fact, about 30% defective goods are hiden in the heart of the ctns. ( I found most of inspector only inspect goods which are put before his eyes). but with SGS inspection team, you would not be worry about the quality problem, they are professional and will show you the actual report of inspection).

Now, you should be careful with the supplier when you first time do business with them, as for how to well control the quality of goods, I do have my ways to let it well done, for this point, if you need my help, you can contact me through my TM.

Posting this expose of China situation is hoping to increase the quality of China product,  and hope China would makes the reputable quality  products worldwide in the future.

You are right about the quality will depend on the price, material use on any product and have a bearing to the complete quality, change from steel to aluminum and the quality can be improved and also the price pushed higher, so most buyers deside to get the lower cost, lower material quality used, later the buyers are not happy when they get poor feedback from their customers and then contact the factory!!

As for the quality inspections, if the inspector visits the factory at 80% production level, and he/she is lead by the factory to check what boxes they want to be checked, well the inspector is out of their depth! it's the job of the inspector to make sure all of the production is set to one side to check, "ALL" the inspector must either select all the products to be tested all use the AQL system and check a selction of the boxes, depends on the level used, but would made randam checks on the boxes and not let the factory choose them.

The buyer must make sure the inspection company carry out the right checks for the type of products, the more checks so the inspection cost be higher too, but if products are checked by just visual inspections you can have problems, many products must be checked via electric, battery, manual tests, computer checks, electrical checks, weights, colors, packing, specs, sample checks to the same spec,,,,,

By also going to the factory at 80% production the checker can pull off samples from the production line and test them too, this is the best way to make sure the production is ok.

I have been on both sides of the coin, some years back i imported to UK and had some problems with quality of the products, i have spent 1 year working in a factory in China, i had a office there for my business, this give more more background to the Chinese companies.

The last thing any buyer needs is to have their products with faults when they unpacked them at their warehouse, at this point you are stuck!, your business is effected in more ways than one, all because you thought should be ok, you just can not guess like this in the export business, the little money a quality would cost can be well worth the money, i have had quality checks in China for us not all have been good, and most i do myslef at the factories.

I spend about 10 mths a year in China, so gives me much time to do these checks, and i would make sure the quality is right before shipping, if we do use a quality helper, we would make sure they have the set plan, we have sent 500,000 products before from China and the client was happy, but the process takes longer and the costs are more, but i like to be safe than sorry. i quite agree with you ,there is a word in CHINA,  "what you pay is what you get".because there are so many factories they can do the same product ,so they are competers ,and when the buyer always reduce the price ,sometime there is no profit ,and they also accept the order,so the quality is no guaranteed

The Economist  always say: in economy activities, the government has an invisible hand. That means the government can't disturb the Liberalistic Economic but should have Policy guidance . But unfortunately most governors dont know economy so you can see the industry distributions here at China are in mess. Many factories compete on one product so it is easy for the buyer to find a supplier here. That is also how the so-called world plant comes from.

Severe competition only lead to one result, price competition. China has a very big population and it is not easy to feed them. And also the finance system is not as advanced as the western countries. People has no many tunnels to invest and foreign trade contribute around 2% to China's economy increase.

That is some situation of China's export market. As for the China product inspection, all that you point out are right. China's products are better than before. I went to a Bhrain Client last month and he decided to give up the cooperation with an Australian supplier and buys from us. But we should pay attention to some small details.

By the way , you can also report to the Consumer Committe of the bad quality products.

However, we welcome the foreigners to supervise on that so we can improve.
