Is that a scam?or should I offer them the free sample?
Post 1 of 5

Dear all,i encounted a tough problem recently.

One of my new importers ask me to send him free samples.Yes , we have the rule in our factory that if the sample is few, we can send free. But this importer ordered nearly 40 kinds of samples from me and ask me send free.,but the total charge is far behind our limited. How could i do that? They say the have been try the same way with other suppliers of theirs.

But who can prove that? then i really don't know what to do next?

hi,dont worry,i think you should talk with your customer, and frankly tell him your idea.you can ask him pay samples fee,but give him a discount for the the number of samples is large.i think he may understand you for he is a business man.right?

Are the 40 samples requested totally different from each other? If they are more or less the same (except for the colour) i would say it was a way to get free stuff.  Tell the client that all the 40 items are pretty much the same you are willing to 1-5 for free and they will have to pay for any extra.

If they refuse they are not genuine. No such thing as free.

I give you a strong suggestion, never send sample free of charge?

What will you do if your special items will appear at ebay for a price lower then your FOB price, what will your other clients then say?

If he is demanding 40 different samples he must pay for it, you can offer then refund after order placed, if they disagree then they have also no order in hand, let them fall down.

Whatever inquiry they send, they can send you huge inquiry just to get samples free of charge, to impress you, no never give samples free of charge.

Another reason, if this is serious company they know that samples cannot be free of charge. These are products you produce same way as your production prgramme so why must they be free of charge, if they pace already the order ok this is something else, you can think to give something free of charge but a new client asking 40 different samples has to pay for it the sample price which should be higher then the unit price so you also protect your market see above example with ebay.

it is nice that you offer fee samples but not that many. 3 samples is plenty. it seems that this importer is not interested in doing business they just want free stuff. beware they wont order from you again, trust me
