Felt the Sichuan 8 earthquake thousands miles away in Hong Kong... with news video
Post 1 of 44
I was on 22/F when the shakes were happening. Precisely it was more a feeling of slow swing of building instead of shaking. Everybody in the flat felt the same.
I was in the central quake zone some 15 years ago in Los Angeles, and witnessed the damages and panics. So when I felt the swing today, I prayed for the people in the quake zone, and wished it didn't take place in costal areas.
An hours later the news report said it was in Sichuan. A HK friend of mine asked me to play golf in Sichuan this weekend and I didn't go because of other engagements. I sent her a SMS and an hour later she replied being safe in her area. If you have friends or business partners there, remember to send them a greeting.
I grasped a Chinese video as a quike reference. It has been 8 hours after the quake now, and youtube has no video report yet. [Video links updated on May 13]

The entire village was in dust

First night after the shakes

A terrible earthquake.

Nearly 900 students here were feared buried when a high school building collapsed in the earthquake

People try to find their property among the debris of collapsed buildings in Dujiangyan, in southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Monday May 12, 2008. A major earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale jolted Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province on Monday, leading to the collapse of many buildings in the neighbouring city of Dujiangyan, Xinhua said.

Chinese women cries on a street after an earthquake strike in Chengdu of southwest China's Sichuan province, Monday, May 12, 2008. Thousands of soldiers and police were dispatched to central China after a massive earthquake Monday killed at least 107 people and buried nearly 900 schoolchildren.

Map locates epicenter of a magnitude 7.8 earthquake, which hit western China; 1c x 2 7/8 inches; 46.5 mm x 73 mm.

It is my first time to feel the shake of an earthquake .By the time it happened, I was working on the third floor typing letters. When the desks shook slightly, I thought some one was sitting rocking the body! Well, just minutes later, several new come to me that we just had an earthquake!

I'm working on the 10th floor in a building in Changsha. I can feel the earthquake as well. I thought I was feeling dizzy before I realised it's an earthquake.  Really terrible !
