How do you know the vehicle even meets EPA standards and or Federal DOT or for that matter even Alaska DOT requirements?

You need to check out this site before you even worry about how much it will cost.

http://www.bordercenter.org/chem/vehicles.htm

Anchorage is a US Port of Entry.  However, Depending on the classification of the s Entry may have to go via Seattle and then shipped to Anchorage from there

Once you get all the stuff above out of the way then just contact a freight forwader in and around Anchorage for the costs related to shipping from Chinese Port to Anchorage.  You should also look for one that does U.S. Customs clearance as well.  That way you will know what your total landed cost is as scooters and Motorcycles

Hi Bill,

For this first sample, first off, I agree with Ranger. Do some research to make sure there really is a business opportunity here. Why risk throwing away money and gain a massive importing LCL headache.

After you do some research, I recommend working with a 3PL company like Hellman or CH Robinson - someone who can clear customs on the US side for you with no problem. You'll pay an extra to do this, but it will be well worth the headache it will save you. This sample will likely cost you over USD1000 to land LCL, not including tariff. Call a few 3PL companies and get some quotes.

In building your trading company, take this one step at a time. After you get your sample (or two if you can afford it,) then you'll have more info to evaluate the logistics end of it. (Ask your logistics provider to itemize your bill so you can use this as a benchmark in comparing future logistics companies). I would say your biggest problem is not going to be logistics or possibly even EPA, but service and warranty.

After you get your bike, you should take it to a shop where you can get it checked out on the relevant safety and emission standards. Then drive it for 3 months yourself, 6 months if you can wait that long. Find out the most common things that go wrong with it, and talk with the manufacture and get a deal with them on these replacement parts. See if they have any repair training material too. Be sure to buy some of these replacement parts to ship over with your initial shipment if the deal goes through - it will protect you from angry customers who can't repair their bikes.

Best of Luck!

Honestly I think you are best to leave this sort of product for the experts. There are just so many ways that you could lose your money.

Unless you really know this sort of product and have good people on the ground to check everything for you then there is no way or really knowing what you are going to get.

Even if you are lucky enough to choose the best possible supplier of this product mistakes could be very costly for you.

Bear in mind also that samples are not covered by any sort of guarantee. So whatever problems you find with the machine that you buy will be your own.

If you are new to trading you are probably much better to start off with less costly easier to monitor products such as accessories than the actual scooters themselves.

If you are buying in the Yongkang or Jinhua area in Zhejiang province in China then pay particular attention as some factories there will offer one product quality and then sell another.
