How do you feel when you read/hear about someone being scammed??
Post 1 of 8
I ask this question because it seems like one of the moderators didn't like my reply to someone who just got scammed. I can tell you personally, I find it humerous when I hear about someone getting scammed, and I don't feel bad for them at all. Let me tell you why.
I've surmized that there are 3 reasons why people get scammed, and they are in no particular order;
1. Ignorance
2. Laziness
3. Greed
Ignorance - We live in the information age where information is literally at your fingertips 24/7. It's readily available to all those who seek it. Anyone entering a business should thoroughly research any business you want to get into, before actually getting into it. eg. If I want to get into the electronics business, I will research what the manufacturing cost are, the acquistion cost, models available, retail cost, and average profit margins. Armed with this information, I will have a general idea of what the cost should be to purchase it. Google is one of the worlds greatest resources, yet it fails in comparison to the local library if you have one in the vacinity of where you live.
Laziness - There's no excuse to be lazy if you want to be in business for yourself. An industry as competitive as Intl Trade REQUIRES hard work and long hours to be successful. There's no field of dreams here, you work harder and smarter than the next person to make your dreams a reality.
Greed - The most damaging of all emotions. The good book says that the love of money is the root of all evil. Greed clouds your ability to think clearly, and you'll take any shortcut, tell any lie, and do whatever it takes to acquire money. Greedy people often forget, when you do what you love to do, you are enriched everyday, and will become rich one day.
Lastly, it seems the majority of the time when people are getting scammed they're dealing in fake/counterfeit/copy goods. No law will enforce an illegal act(s).
Out of all the post I've read on getting scammed, I've yet to read one post from anyone who got scammed, that performed due diligence. In addition, I've read post from people who avoided a scam by doing due diligence. If anyone can find a post to the contrary, please please post it so I could learn from it.
Scammers also have 3 traits. They are in order:
1. Smart
2. Lazy
3. Greedy
Scammers are too lazy to work legitimately and honestly, and want the things they have seen others obtain through hard work and smart work. These people who obtained a higher standard of living, the majority, did through hard work and smart work, and obtained things over time. For scammers the time is alway now. Scammers are smarter than the people getting scammed because they realize that there are people who are lazier and greedier than they are. How else could scammers survive and thrive in any industry, especially Intl Trade?
So from my perscpective I have no sympathy for those that get scammed. I reserve my sympathy for those who truly lost something through no fault of their own (earthquake, tsunami, typhoon disasters to name a few). I don't think people who get scammed need peoples sympathy and to be coddled. They need tough love! They need to be hit in the head and shown that what happened to them was their fault, and not to allow someone to do that to them again.
The only scam I would like to hear about is when someone who has been in the business, performed their due diligence, and still got beat by some new wrinkle. Those are post everyone could learn from. Right now all the scam post are the same, except the names keep changing.
There's a sucker/fool born every minute.

James, you forget the biggest point here on Alibaba and other B2B´s !
"Inexperience"
90% ++ of all posters find websites like Alibaba in the net and mean they could make money !
They did not recognise that this super offers made by scammers, are impossible, because they did not know the market or in case of counterfeits the law !!!
Before someone will be allowed to enter this B2B sites full, posting and contacting others, a small introduction should be a must, readed and confirmed that it is understanded.
A second step with some questions made to the introduced informations, should give permission to enter the site after all questions are answered properly !
But I think this is not in the sense of the websites, because all negative findings in Search engines or elsewhere is a reason for newbies to join to this sites, all mean they are the big ones and it can not happen to them. But we see them crying daily !!!!!

To Wilhelm:
It's true that inexperience plays a part. Ignorance=Inexperience. Ignorance is the definition of not knowing, and inexpereince is not having the knowledge to 'know.'

Hallo James,
Ignorance is "a" definition of inexperience, Ignorance can also be more than a lack of knowledge !
If I ignore your posting, it will not mean that I have no knowledge to reply, so Ignorance=Inexperience can not be true in all cases !
But if I want reply, but can not do so, I do not ignore it, is unexperience or not knowing to 'know' as you reply !

Replying to [wilhelm]:there are sites and postings that beep the red light, we all know its dangerous to drive against the traffic, why not stay clear.
To start crying fowl when we should have known better though sound very pathetic, i at times get very impatient with people who are not patient enough to allow due proces and deligence in what they call business.
