Greetings everyone,

I have a few questions regarding exporting.

1. How exactly do I set up sellers of goods in my own country with international buyers and gain a commission?

2. How much involment is required on my part?

3. Which tasks are my responsibility?

Best Regards,

AJ

If you want to be an agent, you have to understand the product well.  Do some networking to establish your own product line, build up your rapport with your seller so that they can appoint you as their agent/representative,  prove yourselves to be the best amongst the rest.  It is easy to say than done,  you need to put in a lot of effort.  Your involvement could be fulltime in times to come.  You are responsible to both buyers & sellers,  you must be able to resolve any dispute,  it may end up in legal suit sometime, be prepared to face it.  You need to understand the trade b4 heading for it.

Actually PingPing's answer is very good.  I will give you my take on it as this is something i have been doing for more than 25 years.

1. How exactly do I set up sellers of goods in my own country with international buyers and gain a commission?

To sell any product you need to have a finite understanding of the product.

  1. What its made out of.
  2. Supplier quality
  3. The payment terms they accept.  MOQ
  4. Also its a good idea to visit their manufacturing facilities to understand their process.
  5. Pro's/Con's of one suppliers product over another price verses / quality

2. How much involment is required on my part?

  • This depends on the requirements of your buyer which can be a flat fee introduction or a commision based onn larger prolonged sales and coperation.  There are 3 ways to get paid either via the supplier, the buyer via contract issued to both parties that includes a MFPA clause with NCND. The other way is using a Transferable Letter of credit.

3. Which tasks are my responsibility?

  • Once again this will change based on the requirements of your buyers or sellers.  From a buyers standpoint this may mean negotiating the price of the product being purchased.  Suggesting shipping carriers and or arranging shipment of the products to the buyer.  There are some time tested tricks of the trade as well in securing cooperation.

You need to understand that this is a very basic outline.  I have trained several agents in my time but I have never let them do any deal by themselves in under a year.  The reason being is that in order to secure sellers you must be in constant contact with them, be aware of new products and product updates.  You must build a rapport with them.  They must come to know you as a person who brings legitimate buyers to them and not just buyers looking for quotes.  So in this way you must also interview any perspective buyer to see if they are actually buying and or shopping around.  Never get involved with a shopper its to time consuming.  For buyers you need to lay it out in front of them the best supplier based on their needs.

best regards,

Ranger
