Hi, I am trying to determine if some of Free Members from Indonesia are real or just scam, because the posting price for the products are so much lower than the market price.

Any one with some experience please share it with me.

Thanks!

Whether they are a free member or not has no bearing upon their legitimacy as scammers can also pay for Trustpass and Gold Supplier status here at alibaba. The names mean nothing from a security perspective.

That aside I think that you have answered your own question simply by the fact that you are asking this question. Stick with reasonable deals from verifiable suppliers. The deal that sounds too good to be true probably is not a real deal.

it's difficult to tell whether a free member is legitimate or Scam only by price or website. firstly, you can keep talking with him. from your talking you have a basic judgement.  secondly, pls ask more expert questions about products, the more you know products, the more you can tell whether the lower price is reasonable. thirdly, if possible, visit the free member in person.

It's best to ask some local trusting guy to verify for you. I believe you can find some people in our forums. Good luck!

I'm not sure if they are all scams, but I'm guessing they are. I sent a significant payment to a company in indonesia called CAPITAL BUILLDING FISHING for fishing reels.

He was very quick to respond and give information, just like all the other deals I have done on alibaba, which made them seem like a legitimate business. But  I have not heard from him since I made the payment almost a week ago. NOT COOL. I'm guessing they are all scams. I will write again if he surprises me with a message or delivery. But until then I would not deal with any free member anywhere or anyone in Indonesia EVER AGAIN.

You are welcome !!

Free or Gold member is not show that the company will be scam or not as you see in forum, some gold members are scammers.

Best way is: you do business on safe way, I prefer L/C and Incoterms as base of trading.

Because in this case cost, risk and payment method is specified and it prevent frauding and scamming (from seller or buyer).

Forget about free or paid members, just start from the details you have about them, we can first understand more of the product they are selling, brand name products would be a very high scam risk when dealing with exporting products. The price is another issue if the cost is similar ok, if the cost is 10% lower than some wholesale prices but you have to export in container loads you can understand, so you have to know the product and what other retail sales and trade prices are.

Contact details are paramount and complete, good payment terms, business accounts and private. Their web site, time online, infomation about them online, you really find most scammers are online all the time, and i know many real sales people do this too, most scammers would not be liked to be shown on msn camera, and would find it hard to give real background to their business.

Buyers who want brand/copy products would be at the top end of the list, and would find scammers so easy, but if you want to buy unbranded products that are made in most China factory as OEM you would be in a much better line of fire, today i have been to see 3 factories in Shanghai China and all suppliers are fine, i do not come across any bad companies, because of the products i look for, and this is the main problems where buyers that want to start exporting products and make fast and large profits would be the catch for these scammers.

This is a story, scam in UK some time ago.

You be out shopping at your large store, and in the car park you might see a guy in a Transit van, and he would say "i have some electronic gear from our shop, just closed down, we are selling them in packs"

You can see the DVD, video recoreder and TV in a pack, with plastic wrapping, with sticker in middle and remote controls, he starts off at 500, and you bargain untill you get them for 200, you think what a bargain, can not wait to get home, keep the dvd and sell the other 2 items and make a packet!!

You get them home, unwrap them, and plug them in, MMMmm none work, all of them are items that can not been repaired and your local repair shop would sell for 10-20 each, some would have missing parts, the story is that people see first profit and see the goods and forget the basics, don't buy in the carpark of you local superstore, and don't buy brand names or copies from B2B sites, simple [em19]
