I have seen your questions in alibaba community,and as a chinese,i think if you want to import products from china to India,i think you'd better understand China.
And if you want import clothes and shoes from China,and i think you'd better go to Wenzhou city of Zhejiang province in China,because there is a city specialize in producing shoes and clothes.Of course if you import by the B2B website:albiaba.com , may be you can search the sell and supplier in Alibaba.com who located in Wenzhou.

I am also from India and new to this import business. I am dealing in surgical products and I am also going to import from China. Congrats for your decision. Good move.
First get IEC number ( Import Export Code ) from DGFT office near to you. ( Directorate General of Foreign Trade ) . You can search their website from Google by typing "DGFT, India". You will get their website. Then try to get IEC number and then contact your nearest Customs office and ask them about the duty for your goods. If you could not find anything send me a mail to sampa001us@yahoo.com , I will send the application for IEC code. I am at Tamilnadu. Just 20 days back I got my new IEC number.

I understand you since I have also been trying to import from China. I am starting and business and I have no experiences in importing. I have done some researches and I found out about this company named B2X (b2x.com). The company pretty much does everything for you. They take care of the logistics, sourcing, custom clearance, and so on. They are an American company that source in China and deliver products anywhere in the world. I can save money and time by going through them. I hope my answer could help you.

MY FRIEND as a new to the biz i will suggest you..
- Get into details about the product you want to import, price, quality, material. You need to survey your home market thoroughlly, its customers needs. What they are willing to pay, the local terms and condition.
- After you know, what is working in home market, by the time register your company first and get IEC code by option Current account in any good bank. i suggest you to go for any nationalise bank, they charge you lower.
- After registration, if you think - this is your very best long term business, i would suggest you to visit china or any international market you want to source from personally. if China, then visit Guangzhou, Wanzhou and yiwu as this are good markets for shoes and cloths. You will get qualitative products as per price you pay. Keep in mind, take good designs as many as possible in small quantity for first time. If you cant afford to go to china, you need to get going through various B2B sites like alibaba and chinatrade. There is also other thing you can do, you can source directly from the importers already present in our country, they will provide you goods at some profit. Your Chartered Accountant will be best knowledge to you. keep in touch will any Import export agent that is providing such services between china and india. you can check the import duties rate through our custom sites. ieport..com....but for best rates meet any custom officer or agent as they have all the details. Moreover they are the ones who will help you with procedures and process, expences etc.. although you can have bird eye view through websites.
- Start sampling the products online, search for the products, when you got your choise of product and best rates, tryout sampling. you might need to incur some expence in sampling. if you like.. few samples, you can order it and by the time take the help of agents as they will help you out with the process. they might charge you some percent as their fee. make payments through L/c, Paypal etc. IF the order you put is small, the suppliers will demand transfer otherwise L/C is the best payment option. one thing, take the help of agents you know for all this.
Try to search in detail. Persistance is the key, and dont thing too much....basics are done...then try out.
