UK outdoor furnature sales will be seasonal. Good summer means lots of bbq's and outdoor furniture so you will see good sales. But once the sun has gone you will get hardly any.

I think many suppliers that export their products do forget this important point about the time to sell these products best, you really need to understand the country where you export too, the weather will change and some countries get more sun or more rain than others. And you need to think hard about the products, like umbrellas, we know these do well in UK, as we have lot's of rain, but alos sell well in China too, and some people would think WHY!, well first point is in China there is a lot of rain too but not like UK, the other point is the Chinese would use the umbrella in the bright sun, unlike us in UK we stay in the sun, most Chinese would use the umbrella, so means the use of this product is better in some countries, but we need to understand the country and the ways of the people before we understand the market. Hi,

John , Vicky,

I am China supplier, so I would like to release the fact of using personal bank.

Mostly, people using their personal bank is because they do not have the bank acount, as they do not have the export licence and only export with an im-export agent, without the export license they can not apply the US dollar account from the bank.

In fact, about, the tax, if they have the export license, they would prefer to use their company bank account, as most of export company can get return tax from goverment, that is like some other company worldwide ask a Form A to get benefit from the govermant, without Form A the cost of import would be very high. and In China, there is some company operate a company to get the return tax with the export contract value.

If they don't have a export licence the buyer would send money to the trade company who would apply to China customs and take payment! The pi would be in the trade companies name not the factory, using a private account would not let you export goods via customs clearance.

There are no reason to use private account unless the supplier direverts tax or you send you samples via EMS express, any real suplier that exports goods from China would have their own business acoount or use the service of the trade company, i hope all readers will understand this as fact.

Hi John

Thank you for writing this post. I found it a very helpful checklist.

I already have some experience of some of the points, but others I am less sure on. I wondered if you would have the time to offer me some advice.

One point which has recently arisen with prospective manufacturers is them giving me personal **** details for payment for samples. As you mentioned this in point 10 I wondered if you would be able to provide any guidance.

I presume they are asking for payment into a personal account for tax reasons. Should I instead be pushing to pay money into a business account?

Thanks for your time.

Vicky

Hi., Vicky. I am sure the guy you contact just want to pocket the sample fee.

Hi,

Although I registered on here a while ago now I've still yet to purchase anything. I've recently been in touch with a TrustPass supplier in Pakistan and have negioted a small deal of £220 for some leather sports accessories to be shipped to UK. Before I send the payment I wanted clarification on importing the goods into the UK.

Although I have read the points, can you confirm if  I still require documentation and an import licence to import the goods as it is such a small quantity? I am confused as to what customs charges I will be subject to if any? I am not registered as a business this is merely for an additional income, I intend to sell the items on ebay.

The price quoted includes door to door delivery, would that generally include the correct documentation to clear customs?

Many Thanks

Richard

Hi Matthew

First Alibaba is not the supplier, they are only there to list suppliers on their B2B site! As Alibaba would give suppliers from other countires from China free memberships or the option to buy Trustp *, as for China suppliers they need to pay for Gold memberships.

Ok, now for the business! to be real with 500 quid, you are better to find a local supplier in UK and try buid a business first before you start the import side, imports and exports can be great but you can loose too if you don't do things the right way and this can cost money from the start.

With many exporters they can pay 1000s of pounds to start this process, communication, verification, visits, samples, this is well before the container order,

There are some drop shipper suppliers you can but 1-5pcs from and this can start you off, but the delivery cost and the item cost would be higher than the large sales, don't bother with brand goods!!.
