I am about to purchase a couple of thousand dollars worth of goods from a  3 year Gold Supplier on Alibaba. They want me to pay in full before they manufacture the product. Is this safe?

I am considering doing it only because they are a  Gold Supplier. If they were not verified, I definitely would not do it. Any opinions on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

With regards to T.T payment, we usually deal with 30% before shipment and 70% after shipment. I would suggest that you ask them the same.

My advise is not. As I already paid for a gold supplier for a sample, and they say, they did not got the money, I check my bank for money transfer, they show me all documents which money has been transfered to their account. So before any payment, you should know exactly your supplier very well, otherweise you will have great trouble getting back your money or your order.

In my firm opinion you should involve reliable third party to get the deal go through. It's worth paying few dollars to middlemen than working with a risk of losing all money.

If you are talking in terms of commercial import/export then I advice Letter of Credit, no matter how big/small amount is as this covers the basic risk.

It seems to me that all Chinese suppliers automatically get a Gold Supplier here on Alibaba, even though I was told by an Alibaba associate that the Chinese suppliers pay a lot of money to get Gold membership, I wouldnt pay 100% upfront just because they're Gold Supplier. [em24]

Reply to  [jantelma]: Here as some one mensioned above the best way is 30% advance while placing the order and don't forgot to write "Security Advance" and 70% after inspection the goods and fax of BOL. We always work on this.

Please tell them If you use

1.TT payment : ( maximal 60%) 50% Down payment and 50% balance payment after they ship the goods and you get the fax of copy of BL

2.L/C payment at sight irrevocable ( safe for 2 party ) [em18]

If not, don't make business relationship with them [em19]

Not safe. You may found in the forum some articles about scamms from gold members.

Use L/C if even they ask prepaid, you may use prepaid by L/C that gurantee your payment by bank.

As you said "3 year gold supplier", i am quite sure that this supplier is trustworthy,  your amount is just a counple of thousand, I think this is why the supplier required payment in full before production, for small acount, supplier usually prefer it to be paid 100% in advance.

Anyway, if you are still worry about it, that is to verify that company, does this company from China?  you can find a helper to verify for you for safe trading.
