Hi:

I am located in the U.S.  I've been working with a Fortune 500 company for a cuple years now, and have been selling items on ebay on the side.  Now, I wanted expand my side business by selling golf related products on ebay, and later build my website.

My questions are:

1)  What should I look for when selecting suppliers?

2)  What additional fees should I include when buying oversea?  Any regulations I should be aware of?

3)  Any advise on how to get started?

4)  How to protect myself from being scammed?

thanks

Jovis

Hello,

Golf related products is a very vague discription of what you want to persue. If you are referring to Brand name(s) such as Titleist to provide equiptment the only legitimate way to sell those products is to contact the companies directly and file an application. If you are looking for golf accessories I would suggest signing up for the 'trade alerts'. The trade alerts will identify sellers who are developing common accessories such as golf tees for example. In addition, the trade alerts will also help to identify new golf related products. Through my personal experience you will find many good golf products and golf related compaies from Korea. I have found that many Korean companies put alot of effort into developing new technical advances in existing products and well as developing new technically efficient products. Many of their products are produced in China due to the cheaper labor market and large production capacity of the factories. Often, you will be able to access non branded golf related products from the trade company associated with the factory. This is not to say there are not many products produced all over the world, but I suggest this as a starting point in order to begin your process of elimination to determine what products might be of interest to you.

Generally, most of the companies that are not producing products illegally are good. But their are always those out to scam the unsuspecting. Thus, due dilligence is important. Order a sample as you continue your research into the company you are interested in. You can also use the forums in any of the trade sites to ask others if they have experience with the company you are interested in.

As for the shipping methods, the major players in the shipping industry, i.e. FEDEX are quite expensive and will only lead to having to increase the price of the product. Other shipping companies, i.e. EMS can often provide discounted rates through agents.

Hope this helps!

You may find everything in this Sporting Goods related vertical portal. It contains timely industry news, events information and useful links. Near page bottom, you will see a tab called 'Sourcing' which directs you to a listing of reliable suppliers/products. Highly recommended!
