it is really sad to read everyday new Scam on Alibaba.com
Scammers will never accept Letter of Credit (LC) payments. The fraudsters only accept Western Union, TT as these cannot be traced. Buyers making a large purchase should ONLY USE LC. For sample orders and smaller shipments, consider using an escrow service .
If you were to deal with a scammer the payment terms he takes will not matter too much if he don't send you the products or sends you damaged or bricks in the container.Buyers need to check more on the supplier, sure if you send T/T to a personal account you have to think why, but i have dont this many times in China, buying samples for this is normal they ask direct to personal account, if your goods are to be shippined through customs you can not do this, must be to the business account direct from the buyer.
Most of the scams we hear about are of the electrical goods like mobile phones and on any of these deals you can spot 10 points telling you DON"T SEND MONEY!!
My way of working is always to deal direct with the factory, and visit them, keep good communication with them and make more visits when neded, some of our suppliers owe us money as we pay more for the complete orders, but we do not worry as we would get back later on the next order, if we feel this is a problem it's because we have not made our minds clear about the supplier we are in business with.
Facts are that many new buyers cut corners on the business and think they are dealing with their local supplier, the export business needs more work and money!, it's a shame that if buyers would need L/C or payment terms the suppliers can not meet the export business would suffer because of trust,
Choose the right supplier, and the payment terms don't become a problem
Hi,I agree with you!

That's a good one mate. Do you require this info at the beginning of negotiations?
What do you think of insisting on their corporate for any payment? I find it very useful to filter out serious from scammer emails. I have it as a "company policy" that I do not even discus about items, prices or quantity before I get their corporate info. Some send bank info, but the benefitiary is a private individual, so I scratch them immediately. Maybe it would be good if the community at Alibaba somehow comes up with a list of steps we need to go through to make sure (at least 80%) that we eliminate scammers.... any ideas folks?
cheers
Igor
Yes, Igor. It is wise of you to ask for company account. as most of the scammers have no real company at all. But there is a kind of scammers who register a HK company ( a empty shell only for purpose to get money) and receive money into their HK company bank. To open a HK company is very cheap..It is very easy for them to register a new one and start scamming again for receiving money. When disputes arise, it is very hard to trace them as they are actually sitting some other corner of Mainland China. And it will be very hard to bring a lawsuit against them in Mainland China as they are legally registered in Hong Kong.
Therefore, Be very careful when dealing with a HK registered company which is operated by guys sitting in somewhere in Mainland China!

When you dealing with HK registered company, you can using DHL/UPS (your own account)
asking them collec the sample in HONG KONG, just many CHINA COMPANY registered HK company but there address still in China
The most important elements with online trade is, NEVER TRUST WHEN SOMEONE OFFERING YOU RIDICULOUS PRICES!!! Take a look at the price, if the price too good to be true, then possibly you will got scam.
Second, among all safety payment method, I think FLY and BUY and pay cash is the most safety method. You see the sellers, you dealing with him directly, and you see the items with your own eye. Then you pay cash after that.
HAPPY SAFE TRADING.

In my opinion, this is why we build trusting business relationships via these online sites. If you can find trusted business partners that have used sources in China and other overseas manufacturers then you can work on a referral basis with someone who has already been used and can be trusted.
I have two very strong companies that I have worked with for the past few months who have consistently delivered quality goods and great service. They are also both available online during business hours and sometimes even after hours. It took some missteps to find these sources and I had my share of bad quality and non functional product before settling with these two trusted sources.
Please feel free to message me on TradeManager for more information on my resources as I am not sure I can mention company names in posts. (us101621933)
As an additional note, I sent payment to 5 different sources via TT and got all of my product. I took the time to call and talk to each contact and company prior to odering (and throwing out any that did not have working phone numbers or could not be reached) before narrowing it down to the 5 suppliers that I sent payments to and then down to the two who turned out to be the best.
Good luck and let me know if you want my supplier names!
Sincerely,
Angela

'' DO NEVER SEND MONEY TO CHINA BY TT''

I always thought that if you paid by TT you have a chance through your bank of getting your money back if you have been scammed. Im really puzzled by this.I know WU or moneybank is out of the question, but TT. Thats news to me
