Is there a market in China for California Wine?
Post 1 of 20
With the growing economy and buying power of China surging forward is there a market for bottled wine now?

What areas? What sort of pricing? What sort of styles of wine?

Just wondering if this is a product that has a growing market in China. I have seen quite a few news stories on the new middle class in China buying lots of electronics and other luxury items. I was wondering how this is translating to the wine industry (if at all).

Replying to [partsman]:Parts, Why Vietnam in particular?

I am only floating this as an idea at this point and need feedback from local people about the worth of trying to export wine to Asia. The paperwork for alcohol is fairly intense and time consuming. I need to figure out if it is actually worth the huge amount of effort that it would take me to organize.... Thus taking away time from my very small other business (which is still in startup mode for a few months)

Replying to [partsman]:Parts, hadn't thought of the French connections.
Any idea what sort of price points they have there as far as bottled wine is concerned?

I can possibly gain access to wine out of CA as a BOB using a couple of contacts. I haven't gotten past the original thought yet and haven't done any digging as yet.

[em19] Many thanks to you! but if the quality of the buyer's sample is very lower than our quality, and based on the long -time business,we can't make per the buyer's sample, how to persuade customer to accept? To believe what we said is really true? Not cheating him now?

Replying to [Foow]:Dear Foow
The price of Napa Valley wines are exhorbitantly high and they need to be fermented, transported , stored and consumed below 12 degree celcius(For good wine varities), hence logistic costs also push up the prices.
I believe, China market may not be ready right now.

Replying to [sixer]:Sixer, Good points, thank you.
I can get my hands on a reasonable qty of mixed California wines for reasonable pricing... Have not yet worked out full cost to have it landed into China (possibly HK). That is where I need to get some hard numbers.........

What types of wine sell in China and for what pricing. That is always the fun part of trade!

Re the tempurature thing Sixer... Question....... Wine can go in a non-refrig container as long as it is not on the outer part of a ship. Can this be requested when shipping at all? (ie I would like this container in the hold not on the outside deck)

Replying to [Foow]:Dear Foow,
I am not too sure about shipping wine querry.
But expensive wines as I cited, can not be shipped without refrigeration. Table wines, yes, they can be shipped without refrigreration.

Replying to [Foow]:[em1][em1]Hey Foow, if you can not get california wine, try Oregon we are one of the best wine maker in the country anyway. Come and visit. I can take you to some of the wine tasting places (30 min) from Portland City.

As for Chinese, last time I went there (3 months ago) most of people refer drinking beer. Even the big restaurants don't have a wine list on their menu. [em1]
