My experience as a sourcing agent for a US buyer

It was in Sep. 2007, at that time I was working for a trading company in Beijing and I was a green girl in export business. That is a new start company without clients, even without our own products. What I need to do is to find good products and good factories and then promote the products on some B2B website, in a word, it is E-business. Actually our company ever attended Canton fair last April, but gained nothing so my boss decided not to attend any fair.
I found a kind of good selling products and sent emails to thousands of potential buyers but only a few of them were replied. During that period I felt frustrated until I came across Mike from USA.
Mike was very satisfied with the samples I sent to him, that is a kind of exclusive products, he said he can beat their competitors by using the products. I was very glad to hear that after, you know he is my first client, he rrrrreally means a lot to me. After a few days Mike said he could issue the order but at last he canceled the order because the price was high, he decided to buy from Southern part of China, the price was cheaper there. But he pointed that the quality of ours is very good. Yes, we use different technique from other items. If the products from South China sell well he will buy from us next time. I was a little disappoint but I understood him he is a buyer he has to be careful when he selects products. What’s more Mike is a very nice gentleman and we get along very well. Even if we can not do business with each other, we still can be friends. The fact is that we are very good friends now. I will quit my job soon and Mike said he can help me to correct my resume.
After that I kept sending emails to potential buyers but hardly got reply. A month later Mike sent me an email to ask me to help him find good bamboo wine chime supplier. I did my best to help him and luckily I found the suitable factory without any difficulty. The factory treated me very well. The products and the delivery time were both very good. Mike was very happy for what I did for him. I will never forget Mike’s trust on me. It was Mike who gave me confidence when I met difficulties. It is so difficult to build trust between two people who never see each other in person . Mike told me he had very bad experience doing business with Chinese companies. He was cheated several times. I was so sorry to hear that. As a Chinese citizen, I felt shamed.
Till now I have helped Mike with 4 orders. All of them went smoothly.
I only take my part time to help Mike. I noticed many sellers were asking if Alibaba can bring you orders. My answer is yes, I have obtained 3 orders for our company from Alibaba since last August. Maybe I can share my experience of the 3 orders next time.
