Iron ore Alternative
With the cost of Iron Ore skyrocketing many people will need a low cost alternative. I have found what I beleive to be a wonderful solution, partially processed low grade iron ore otherwise known as copper slag. Copper slag has 40.5% iron ore and can be purchased for $23 mt FOB. I just recently got one of our clients into a contact for this which took a while do to them needing to test it first.which after smelting it down they were able to extract the iron.

This may well be the way for many small refineries to go if the price of Iron Ore keeps going up. If you have people that need iron ore offer them the alternative solution and watch your profits soar.

You are right. Copper slag contains 40-50% fe content. The problem with low grade iron ore is , you need to do beneficiation or enrichment for steel mills to use. They rarely touch ores of below 55% fe content. The other major impurity is silica, it is also big removal process in steel making. The common silica limit is max 3.5% in iron ore, but it is 10-16% in copper slag. If you have a technology to overcome this, we have a huge potential. See my post here.

Infact we are in possession of seven million MT copper slag in India and can help you. Please contact me on TM if needed.

We are trying to create awareness among the possible users. It seems an uphill task other than marketing it for filling material. I would like to know your success in finding a potential user.[em1]

I found China produced 150 million tons of copper slag every year.

You see the potential. But it seems it is difficult to get Iron and Copper for copper slag. Only a few of companies has such technologe in China.

I am considering if i can export this material to other countries.

Glad comunicate with you about this products. MSN: Deleted-Sixer

The copper slag once refined, it has to become iron ore only and extracting further copper is costlier offer.China is the biggest importer of iron ore and where do you want to export? I would like to know the technology used by Chinese processors.

Alomg with some other metals, dont forget the ever dreading Sulfur content in the slag. Its a nightmare for the refiners and melters. The suggestion to use copper slag may seem easy at face, but per se its very difficult.
