NAFTA - Pros and Cons...
Post 1 of 8

Pros Cons
1. Jobs and factories have been shipped to Mexico, but supplier is not shipped. In order words, US manufacturer continue to purchase from their supplier in US. Unlike jobs and factories exported to China, US suppliers connection are cut too. Factories are relocated, and jobs are cut.
2. Mexican benefit from this trade, since more jobs are created for low income mexicans people, and help build the Mexican economy. The opposite effect is that Americans are losing their jobs, increase US trade deficit.
3. NAFTA brought in a flood of foreign investment and contributed to a 24% rise in Mexico's per capita income. The pact has destroyed Mexico's small farmers, and bringing in an influx of subsidized U.S. food imports
4. Its mission is to increase number of mexican jobs, increase standard of living, and thereby decrease the illegal mexican immigrants entering US Data have shown Nafta is ineffective in stemming the tide of illegal Mexican immigrants entering the US to find jobs.
5. US companies near the border are gaining postive results from NAFTA US companiese away from the border are gaining negative results from NAFTA, notably jobs
6. NAFTA'S goal is to reduce tariffs among Mexico, Canada, and the United States over a period of years, making it easier to trade goods across national borders, and increasing economic efficiency in North America. It clearly deserve the strong support of all those who believe in liberty and free markets. Environment is seriously jeproardized as pollution will increase

It is a nice school boy type short answer -concise. You have not given final verdict if Mexicans ultimately gained by employment or lost by agricultural imports.[em1]

Replying to [Thomas1976]:Hi Tom, I am a bit puzzled by some of the logics by this table.

Please explain:
1 - How can more jobs going to Mexico, better pay and higher living standard are promised, whilst the Mexicans are still taking huge risk to enter US looking for jobs which virtually non existed? Are they lost their minds ?
2 – Why the relocation of the factory would increase the pollution? Are you suggesting there are different standards / compliances towards environment in US and Mexico ?

1- When a factory is re-located to a certain Mexican village or town, it will bring employment to the town or village. Not all the villages or towns in Mexico is going to benefit by a few factories re-located from US. When there are plenty of jobs, living standards will increase.

As for why Mexicans tunneling thru underground, sweating over the scorching desert, and braving over the treacherous sea....... could be due to political reason?? Not sure.

2. There is a theory that Mexican trucks are creating lots of noise and air pollution. This is what some of the anti Nafta were talking about. Which makes a lot of sense since truckers can enter in and out of US w/o restriction.

some jobs have been created for those  people living near the factories yes it´s true. but since subsidized corn is being brought in from the U.S. into mexico many FARMERS are slowly not only losing their job but their possessions are being seized also. these poor farmers are the ones risking their lives for less than min. wage in the U.S. as for why their stuff is being seized, there is maaaaaany reasons, but the main reason is so unexpected. the subsidized corn is made GMO (genetically modified organism) and all different types of GMO corn is patented by the different farm companies making them. corn is WIND POLLINATED. when the people put GMO corn for their little house gardens, many of the seeds are released into the countryside and planting themselves into the farmers fields. soon the GMO corn takes over the field, killing off the indigenous corn in the process. When the government inspects the land (annually) and they see the new corn (patented) in a field they seized the property and turn it over to the farm company whos corn it belongs to. the farmers coming for jobs in the U.S. litterally have nothing to lose. because of our capitalist ideas and our way of getting everything for a cheaper price than others. we are not fair. and we blame the mex. government and the people. not ourselves. we the people of AMERICA is now a shadow symbol of global takeover and we are the parasite of the people of the world. all in the name of cheap Bananas(look at the history of Guatemala and the United Fruit Company)
