I am a new U.S. business and Im trying to figure out how to import leather apparel from Pakistan.

I am working with 2 manufacturers there, one who quoted me in FOB, and the other in C&F (air) to the nearest US port.

For FOB, I would have a carrier pick up the shipment at the port in Karachi, and likely have the same carrier move it through US customs, then on to my door.

For C&F, the seller would arrange the shipment to the US port, but then how do I arrange for a carrier to pick up the shipment there, clear customs, and deliver it?

Also, where can I find a list of US ports for air delivery? Is it simply any major US airport? I happen to live near Louisville, UPS' main air hub. Can anyone tell me if this airport is a valid port?

I have searched UPS and DHL's websites, but neither seem to have clear-cut answers. [em9]

Can someone who is experienced at this help me understand?

Thanks!
Dave

Replying to [DrummerDave]: Hello neighbor, IM from Lexington, KY

Heres a link to your answer:

http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/contacts/ports/ky/4115.xml

On that page click brokers. That will give you the list of all customs brokers who can clear items from that air port. DHL, and UPS are on the list if you so choose to use their package delivery system. Otherwise you can contact any other broker on the list to check their prices for clearing your load. It is best if you pick up your shipment directly at the airport if not using DHL or UPS door to door.
