I am in the middle of lining up suppliers for the purchase of electronics, However my big comcern is that many of them only except wire transfer or electronic transfer of funds an which the buyer has little or no protection from fraud. How do I know that all the companys that are on the alibaba web site are trustworthy to deal with??

Replying to [rvsmith]:

Well, first of all not all companies on the alibaba web site are trustworthy, unfortunately<img src=" border="0" src="http://img.alibaba.com/images/eng/style/icon/emoticons_sad.gif" /> Moreover, some are probably not real companies at all, but simple scammers<img src=" border="0" src="http://img.alibaba.com/images/eng/style/icon/emoticons_rage.gif" />

If you are going to establish long-term relations, it would be really a good idea to pay a visit to the prospect suppliers and see everything with your own eyes.

Or, at least you could hire some local agent company so that they would do a simple research of the supplier for you.

The very minimum, as comrade yuhaoroman mentioned, is making some phone calls to the local business organizations and to the existing clients (preferably foreign ones) + seeing what Google has to say about "company name"<img src=" border="0" src="http://img.alibaba.com/images/eng/style/icon/emoticons_grin.gif" />

Yeah, you can also probably ask for some scans of their legal documents.

Hello RVSmith,

I would also agree with the statement from Vox_populi.

As a supplier of teak wood indoor furniture - www.LimoLapan.com most of my buyers are recommended to visit me to Jakarta - Indonesia to see my showroom office and workshop. It is very expensive to travel but its worth it thou, If you want to find a truely supplier, you as a buyer should spend more money to investigate by yourself by visiting the country to see by your own eyes.

Hope my little sharing statement helps you.

Regards - Teddy Alimudin - www.LimoLapan.com

                                                             PRINCIPLES:

1 Use common sense: if it is too good to be true..it is not.

2 Don`t let yourself get excited about the deal and think you are the one. You are notttttt !

It is posted on internet for all.... to think...i am the one.

3 Keep your guards up, do not trust!!!!!

4 Trustworthy certificates, gold memberships and and and.... can be bought, therefore

            mean nothing.

5 The basic principle of spamming is: to get your money upfront, without delivering or

           deliver minor  goods...and so on.

6 Where please,we can get certifications or references about the seriusly, morality and

good company; because  we have problems, when we ask to the potencial

suppliers about his morality,  in special event when we have pay in advance.

7 DO NOT TRUST THE COMPANIES THAT WANT A WU WIRE

           TRANSFER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8 Trust is earned, not given – it’s going to take time for you to find a supplier that you truly trust.

                                                        METHOD

1   Create some kind of check list to evaluate a seller according to your criteria

2   !heck with government entity, Chamber of Commerce or any industry association that the company

          belongs

3   Obtain three references and contact them.

4   If as you said only expect wire transfer and you are not comfortable with that payment method then

move on to another company that can cooperate with you.

5   Most companies are trustworthy but it never hurts to double check by calling them direct, asking them

          toprovide full business registration details.

6   We disclose potential buyers, our full company address, phone contacts, BR #, mobile #, and usually

call our buyer direct to affirm our reliability.

7   Provide buyer from abroad logistics services.

        www.biznest.com.hk

8   Better either get your suppliers checked out by a local professional.

9   Start with sampling, place a trial order later and then increase your order step by step.

10  Use an overseas inspection service to go and verify the factory in-person, take photos and grade its

        legitimacy.

11  Meet the manufacturers for yourself, its well worth the money once you can afford it.

12  There are cases to show that gold supplier and trustpass member of alibaba don't necessarily mean

they are real company, due diligence should be taken when you are dealing with any company

        you come across online.

13  Check the website of local administration of industry and commerce for company registration

information of this company  (like the    website of         shenzhen AIC,         Xiamen AIC

        provide free check)

14  Search the company+ scammer, see what you get.

15  A simple and important rule is to send money to their company account only. If they have a business

         account, then they are real

                                                      PART II

16  Yeah, you can also probably ask for some scans of their legal documents.

17  If they don't accept a secured payment method, don't deal with them anymore. They are possibly scammers.

18  Save your self dealing with Putian city companies almost most of them can't wait to rob you.

19  Do background check on companies you think you want to deal with to verify if they really do exist like real

manufacturers. background check will show what reputation they built dealing with customers, like

    often cheating or not.

20  If you can find 100% trustworthy agent in China to investigate companies for you this is probably one of the

    best ways to crack scammers.

21  Good agent there could save you lots of headache and help build net of trustful suppliers for you.

22  No company is 100% trustworthy. So I think it should be the manuacturer who is to show sincerity at the first

place, which means to accept some secured payment method to protect the buyer.

23 The only way to secure your transaction 100% with money back guarantee insurance is:

You contact and send your L/C (or similar) to an international trust LAW firm, preferrably from

USA or Europe. These lawyers have - by law- those responsibilities and have -by law- necessary

insurances , and are -by law- required, to represent only your interests..

(They will contact  on your behalf the chosen company and inform about the secured dealing procedures. )

(Any serious company will accept it, even post it proudly on their website, to show the difference, and  prove they

            do serious business.)

A company, that does not accept it.....forget.

The costs for those services are regulated by law and are relatively low ( 3-11%), but priceless in their

efficiency of saving your money.    The big global players in the world use it ...and so should you.

24  Also  Google Maps and Yellow Pages when possible can detect a real company from a fake one.  I call the companies

from the Yellow Pages numbers to confirm.

                                                               PART III

25  We prefer to travel and inspect the merchandise just to make sure everithing is alright.  Using the common sense is useful.

You will never give a huge amount of money to someone you don't even know.  Is the same with a company.

Settle a relationship with the supplier, meet them and only them buy.

26  Use the guidelines I mentioned for comparing suppliers

27  Diversify your risk, or work through a reputable agent

-A )   If you’re going to diversify, pick 3 suppliers and place a small order with each of them. See which one services

you the best, then follow-through with that supplier.

-B )   Work with a reputable agent and put the contracts through this agent. This agent at minimum should have a

HK office and a office. It’s best if they have an office in your home country as well. The more security you wish

for, the higher the premium you will pay.

28  REQUEST A PRE-PRODUCTION SAMPLE

A )  At least two- ship them both to yourself, then send one of them to your QC agent.

B )  This is the benchmark you use for QC, and is your representative product sample should this end up in arbitration.

29  Regardless of the above choice, work with an independent inspection agent. This is absolutely necessary. Inspection agents usually

work on a per-time fee or a % of order basis.

A )  Schedule AT LEAST TWO INSPECTIONS. – one at around 50% of the order, and another just a week before you’re

            scheduled to ship out.

B )  Request Inspection Samples from each inspection. A few of the representative quality products and ones from

the most common defect types if possible.

30  One other thing that is very important and which is not mentioned in any other reply, is the simple fact of asking for the sellers bank name,

contact and telephone number. Simply contact their bank and verify as much information as you can.  For example, how long

in business, are there accounts current, do they like doing business with them, and so forth.  I would say between a bank

interview and a factory inspection you have minimized most of the risk.

                      PRACTIC:

 - Who your previous clients?

- Possible get the tests of the cement before conclusion of agreement for certificate it in Russia?

- What ship or what company-carrier you plan to hire for delivery?

- In what port will occur loading, can I am present under her?

- You certain that exact price CIF port so-and-so will exactly be such, as beside you is specified?

- Besiges, you always can check this company on subject of bona fides:

        1 simply having addressed to trade attachee in embassy of that country, whence this company;

        2 to local assotiation of the producers of the cement (they are quickly found in Internete);

3 in Service of the Commercial Crimes under International CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

4 to detective agency or to friends in country "registrations of" company
