How can I verify the manuf. sends the right leather?
Post 1 of 17
I am in the process of starting relations with a company in Pakistan, buying leather apparel.
How can I tell if the leather used in the products is the same type as we specified?
I specified full grain leather (not milled). Would I just look for natural scars and imperfections in the leather surface, since it shouldnt be milled and stamped w/ a grain pattern?

Replying to [DrummerDave]:Pre inspection is the key to ensure the quality. You can hire some professional agencies to inspect the goods before loading into docks.
All the Best.

We this line,we do have experience, as we deal in this line.
You need to ask the manufacturer send you the sample before order, and check goods with the sample the supplier send you, you can verify whether the goods is same with what you ordered.
Nothing you can do beside sample approval.

Dave. If you e mail me then I can give you a bit of an insight into various companies making leather goods in Pakistan. I have just posted a new article on a similar subject on the forum. In essence there is little you can do to ensure the quality of the leather when you place an order, other than paying someone from an organisation like QA in Sialkot or Karachi to go and examine the goods prior to them leaving the factory. This could cost as little as $300 a day. If you are buying a large volume from your supplier then it could be worthwhile paying for this service. Our own experience has been that even after you have been to see the factory concerned there is little you can do to ensure the leather quality when it arrives on your doorstep! If you wish I can give you the name of one company - not the cheapest - but which is honest and does produce excellent quality leather. We are currently using this company and I would be willing to recommend them to you. Drop me a line if you are interested.
