What do you mean by being innovative?

Do you mean to invent something new, hold patents and make much money?
Or just to make over some old things which has been around for ages, and turn the industry around?

This matter is most subjective to the area of applications.

Many say that Apple is number 1, because of the IPOD and the IPONE. But if you look at Japanese and Korean companies like SONY and SAMSUNG, you can find them in almost any thing.

Samsung is in shipbuilding, air conditioner, refrigerator, mobile phone, computers, even in Supermarket Departmental stores. This is little known because the survey is pro-American.

In Europe, the maker of the cars, MAN B&W is the most innovative in the field of engine technology. AEG and Philips invented many things such as the cassette recorder, the CD and they also make Medical Electronic machine such as the CAT scan.

Apple is quite innovative in a sense that they produce IPOD while the rest of the other companies did not think it was a great idea. And even though, the technologies behind Ipod or Iphone are not something new, but Steve Job put all these technologies together to make it so.

Moreover, Steve Job made PC not just a Nerd's toys, rather his Mac are fashionable and stylish for consumer. He re-designed and made Mac a cool and must thing to have.

In a way, it is innovation with fashionable design.....

I agree with you on the other points. Like I mentioned, 3M, Applied Materials, AMD, Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba etc are all innovative companies that produces many new products. Even Fuji Film, with her many patents from photography science is quite innovative too.

Steve Job only made the Apple Computer, he did not reinvent the computer, but had their own OS (Operating System).

Have you heard of Radio Shack, Wang, and some other who gone into oblivion due to their OS, the software available are limited.

Apple Computer has applied their Macs to run on the IBM OS, which Microsoft is the main software House. Should you say Microsoft is also innovative? The windows system keep on improving and tuned to the need of the time. The transition between emails and SMS and messaging of other platforms, the Wi-Fi technology, and the GUI, (Graphic User Interface) which originates from the Apple computer.

Long before Apple had the IPOD, there was MP3 compression system, SONY has her WALKMAN, and then the BLUE RAY system, which beats the DVD in the new High Definition Television System. Now all HDTV DVD players are switching to Blue Ray, invented by SONY.

The Japanese are the most innovative people, they came out with the FUZZY LOGIC system, and this has become industry standard for Controllers and machines which operates on abnormal condition.
Their research on robotics has gone way ahead of the rest of the world, and what ever the Americans have, they got it too. The previous generation of the Nihon Jins learned from the Germans, and now they are the Knowledge based industries to Asia and the world.

No doubt about that, I know my history as well as you do. So you points is????

Have you heard of Radio Shack, Wang, and some other who gone into oblivion due to their OS, the software available are limited.

I lived in US long enough to know about Radio Shack, but not sure about Wang. Anyway, Radio Shack did not gone into oblivion, rather, they are very strong retail store in US. So, I am not sure what you are implying.....????

Apple Computer has applied their Macs to run on the IBM OS, which Microsoft is the main software House. Should you say Microsoft is also innovative?

Well, I acutally did mentioned that Microsoft is very innovative on the first page of this post......

Long before Apple had the IPOD, there was MP3 compression system, SONY has her WALKMAN, and then the BLUE RAY system, which beats the DVD in the new High Definition Television System. Now all HDTV DVD players are switching to Blue Ray, invented by SONY.

There are simply too many companies that have many innovations, so should I list all of them? Moreover, credit should be given to that company who make it first into the market that is affordable and usable, not the company who make a product that is too expensive for consumer to buy or dislike....

The Japanese are the most innovative people, they came out with the FUZZY LOGIC system, and this has become industry standard for Controllers and machines which operates on abnormal condition.

Japanese were a great bunch of innovative race, but the future still lies in the Chinese and Indians. Our new X generation of young Japanese are more into Video Game and Fantasy world just like the Korean, while the rest of the developing countries are still in the reality of making a real living and am becoming very strong.

Their research on robotics has gone way ahead of the rest of the world, and what ever the Americans have, they got it too. The previous generation of the Nihon Jins learned from the Germans, and now they are the Knowledge based industries to Asia and the world.

Japanese research on robotics are very advance, but who is to say that the US, China or Germany may not be able to catch up. Moreover, even though the robotic engineering is very advance, the reality is that the cost is still very high and not many are able to afford it. When such company like TATA who can make some cars affordable and into a reality for poor people, then that company or that country has the more innovative lead.

IMO, the US has many innovations still on the drawing board but do not have the capacity to make it into reality. But do not forget that many technologies and new ideas came out from Germany, US and Russia, and countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan and maybe Singapore make these ideas into reality.
