Responce from companies to my Alibaba request to buy Solar powered traffic lights:
many responce were irrelevant to the product I need, few that do, showed thier product pictures that interest me, we communicated on technical details even on e-mails, WHEN EVER I ASKED THEM TO GIVE ME A QUOTATION, they ask for my fax no. and stop communicating.
Are chineese quotation shy?
or how do they expect me to buy from them without giving me a price quotation?

Replying to [Tomi]:Dear Tomi,
I agree with Braham.
Some of your countrymen makes it very hard for other Nigerians to do business internationally.
I do business in Africa, and well aware of the high risk of getting scammed I must say that building trust is very important.
In your case I would try to call them on phone.
During a phone conversation they will get a much better impression of your sincerity.
If you can, provide the supplier with a copy of your business registration and make sure that they can find your company on a websearch.
If you have previous trades internationally, ask some of your suppliers or customers if you may refer to them for reference to doing business with you.
It's a matter of TRUST.
You may be able to turn your disadvantage to you own benefit. Once you get trusted you have a very good chance of being a preferred trade partner in your country.

Good luck

Very good suggestion. Yes, it's a matter of TRUST. On the first day I started to work, I was reminded by a collegue that don't take inquiries from African countries (esp. NG, BENNIN,CAMMERON) too seriously if they say they need our items in big quantity. And for over 3 years, I've received many inquiries like this, and most of them are finally proved to be scammers' tricks. Anyway, I used to have a serious customer from NG. So just as Peter says, turn your disadvantage into your own benefit. When you make an inquiry, specify which item you need, and attach a detailed introduction of your company. A message with words like BIG QUANTITY, URGENT will not be seriously considered.

It is to verify, that you are a company and not a Nigerian Scammer working from an Internet Cafe !
The Scammers are able to receive quotations by e-mail and or by phone, but no one of them have a possibility to receive a FAX !

So this is to aware, that their quotations will be published in the Internet from worthless people or company details abused !

In responce to Braham S. Agarwal

With due respect,
Only the ignorant will assign a crime pattern to a country, a race or religion.
Are all Britons murderers because of the recent killing of 5 prostitutes? Or all Americans school children crazy high school murders? The fact that the 419 scam started in India does not make it Indian.

There is good and bad people in every country. So we must stop general stigmatization of Nigerians.
Scammer only get fellow scammers. How on earth can my advertising my products and selling on safe international standards result in me being scammed? People who fall for scammers are thieves who want to reap where they do not sew.
Only God knows how much of the Nigeria's debts recently paid to the G7, Paris club etc. are as a result of scamming from advanced countries. For so many people from advanced counties to jump at every letter letter inviting them to share from monies not earned? There is need for us to ask how long the sharing of unearned income being going on in the world?

Thank you for your contributions
