Dear Friend

i have started newly in Trading and imports. Simuntaneously i am working on importing couple of products.

i Want to know what is custom duty and total expence per tonne on WELDING ELECTRODES IF I IMPORT IT FROM CHINA (BOTH STAINLESS STEEL AND MILD STEEL ELECTRODES). HS code is 8311 (i am not very sure). i am working on same product since last 3 months. As the product was sort of new to me. I have also inquired with one Chartered accountant and CHA all are giving me different answers. how can i know the Exact Duty levied (custom duty+add. duty+edu cess+ANTIDUMPING DUTY IF ANY).

other thing i want to know is how much excise and VAT i need to pay when i sale this imported products in india.

sir, I havent got enough information but product has good potential as there is a huge market in Gujarat.

where can i find exact duty and other expences levied on imported items. Any source - websites..etc.

Dear Ashish,
Electrodes: These may require certifications specific to welding norms, as in case of cryogenic systems.
Import Duties: Log on to : http://dght.gov.in, also find time to read and understand details given in the Handbook of Procedures--Vol. 1 & Vol.. 2.

If you still cannot find answers to your queries...walk down to the nearest custom office, they will be glad to help you and even let you know if any dumping duties are applicable at present or not.
Shipping:You need to do some more homework and get quotes from as many clearing agents as possible.
Selling Price of most imported goods in India: The thumb rule says, double the price quoted to you. + vat.
VAT:Check with your sales tax officer or lawyer that handles your returns.

Best of Luck [em7]

What business oppurtunities are currently available for exports.

I mean to start a small export business what items are currently in demand from India.

What are future prospects for imports considering depreciating rupee.

Dear Friend,

The world is full of opportunities. All one  needs is a focused goal.

Everything (sans restricted/banned items) from India is in demand. Indian goods and services are accepted world wide.

It may not be wise, if I say, that you start selling Rice, Tea, Cotton..Handicrafts etc. etc..

You have to choose a product or service that you have interest in and confidence in its quality/competitive price.

Depreciating/Appreciating currencies, is an economic phenomenon, it either slows down or increases requirement, but cannot stop imports.

All the Best.

Dear sirs,

I have another question.. i have got the rate of custom duty and there is no antidumping.

I dont want to take big risk,  i have selected the right product from one of the supplier in china.. yes..its stainless steel welding electrodes.

I want to try out the product so i want to buy less then 2 Tonnes. how could i arrange shipping for the same from China Tianjin or Ningo port  to nhavasheva, mumbai. the Weight is 2 tonnes around 4CBM for 20 feet container. I have told many supplier to offer me DDP rates but no one offered. so i asked CIF ...even then all have denied as quantity is small to them. then, i agreed on  FOB. How could it be the one of the cheapest deal for me to brought goods from China to india..2 tonnes.

Regads,

Ashish

Dear Ashish,

Wonderful Job!! [em16][em18][em19] Good home work----always pays in the long run.

A low risk way of going about your imports:

1. Get samples--Check packing details.

2. Show them around to buyers, pay emphasis to direct users.

3. Give free samples to test the quality.

4. Take into confidence the welders and foreman's

5. Evaluate estimated demand.

6. You need to keep at least 3 months inventory, perhaps can cut it down to 45 days to start with.

7. Check on the credit involved.

8. Communicate well with the manufacturer, taking them in full trust.

I presume this will be your first imports, so

1. prefer an existing Indian importer who has an office in China.

2. has the necessary manpower and links to handle both ends at China & India.

3. follow closely with the procedure and details that he follows.See that you are present when the goods land in India.

4. You may have to give the importer some charges for his services, but believe me they are worth it from all the botheration he is saving you from.

After a couple of such imports you will be ready to import directly.

Best of Luck.

Could you tell me your name?.......

Thanks again..........newcomers always should be inspired to take risk.......and move forward.........thanks....

My friend,

Business is all about 'calculated risks'-- If your calculations are right, it is good business.

Also, the higher the margins--greater the risks.(ever tried selling 'brown sugar').

With reference to your other problem, you need to access the person / company you are trusting to import your goods.

Believe in 'mukaddar', -- what is destined will happen, while remembering the fact -- 'no one on earth can snatch the loaf of bread destined for you'.

All the best. Good Luck.
