Replying to [Vijay Corporation]: Thats a pre inspection report that the buyer pays for. Therefore they want assurances from SGS that they are getting exactly what they are paying for. If your product does not pass the inspection then there will be no deal. What may also be addressed by the inspection is a counter offer on the goods you are trying to sell. The inspection can also consist of accurate quanity of the shipment as well as the overall quality of the goods. SGS will inspect to the quality level required by the buyer.

SGS inspections are great selling tools as well. SGS will give one copy to the supplier pass/fail and send one to the buyer and then retain one for their own files in the case of a quality dispute. Imagine if you had 10 previous SGS inspections of your products all of which passed you could then fax or email these copies to any potential customer showing that your company maintains the quality you say you do.

You may simply contact the SGS staff in your country and you can get a satisfied answer regarding all these questions from a SGS rep. Have a look at www.sgs.com first. SGS is the largest QC inspection company on the globe at present.

I am getting the sense that some sellers may think that they can get an SGS report as some type of certification of their factory.

This is not what the buyers are talking about.

Buyers are talking about an inspection of production prior to shipment and prior to payment. This inspection is done by a third party company, generally at the buyers expense. SGS is just one of the bigger and more well known companies that do these inspections.

The inspection certificate is only valid for that one order.

Ranger makes a very good suggestion though, and that is that first off if your factory's production can pass a pre-shipment inspection then you know that you are doing a good job. Secondly, the actuall report from SGS for that particular shipment can be an excellent way to reassure new buyers that you are a legitimate supplier. So you can remove the customer details from the report and send a copy to prospective new customers if they seem concerned about your company.

Ranger give one part for SGS, yes, some buyer pay to SGS for verify the supplier for guarantee from SGS, a few years ago when I working for a factory, and there's SGS staff come to verify our factory, let me tell you the story:

Fist, the buyer wal-mart,( usually big buyer using this service), they send inquiry to our factory for certain products and we quote to them, after, they would our price are good, then ask the SGS to verify our factory capacity of the order. so, this is a SGS report too.

Another SGS report for supplier before business,  I think it is new these two years,  that is supplier sign contact with SGS and want SGS to have a report for their company, which cost about USD1500 for the report, and valid for one year, this report including all info of the supplier, such like, license, workshopphotos, supplier sourcing work, supplier managing system, supplier production capacity, supplier QC management, supplier designing capacity, worker and staff quantity etc.  all these would let the buyer to make a decision whether this supplier would be suitable for them to buy from.

Sure, there is another SGS product report, I think everybody knows it.
