my business line is outdoor teak furnitures , my client ask me to send the goods by cpt incoterms, does anybody knows what's the meaning of the term and is it save to send goods by incoterms ?

For previous order, my client sent the money for the freight to Baltic
port - Riga (Latvia) or SPb (Russia) to the name of our affiliated
company - agent, than they were taking it to Moscow with customs clearing, now he suggest us to use cpt incoterms since it's more convenient .

Need advise urgently...thank you so much to all my friend in this forum....

[The Jeco]:

CPT= Carriage Paid To.

That much I remember, but I can't remember the exact parts of the whole gig you need to pay for versus what the buyer pays for.

I am FAIRLY sure you pay for the internal shipping inside Russia (or wherever) rather than the buyer as would be the case if it was just to a named port..... Don't quote me on that...... Grigo or Ranger will probably be able to give more detail on that part for you.

Grigo, I already read the website that you have given to me , thank you for your help, however I'm still confused about Bill of Lading ( BL) , I would like to know if my client using the payment by cpt incoterms, and when the forwarder issue the BL , do you know to whom is the Bill of Lading will be given ? I just want to make sure, the shipper is going to hold the BL or the buyer? This is really important to me for knowing this , therefore if you do have some information, please advise me soon. Thank you Grigo...

This depends a lot on what method of payment the Buyer has used.

IF it is by way of LC, then, after you ship the goods and arrange everything that has  to be arranged, and paid all the fees which you are responsible for, you submit the Original Bill of Lading, along with all other documents required to your bank for them to claim the money from the Buyer's Bank. In that case, when the Buyer receives the original documents, he then gives them to his Customs Clearance Agent to handle matters from there.

If the Client has paid by TT in advance, then you can safely send the Original B/L to him.
