First shipment from China
Post 1 of 11
Alright, so we have a product we have had produced in the United States for the past year or so, we just recently got a better price from a company in China who would be shipping from Ningbo. I have looked around a lot and read some information about what i will have to go through for all the customs and shipment but still have some questions.

I would appreciate any comments, or help anybody can provide me as i am new to importing and want to make sure my goods do not get seized.

We would be shipping a 20' container from Ningbo, China which would then end up arriving in Orlando, Florida. I know we will have to pay for Ocean Freight and then Truck Freight, my worries is about all the customs and everything else.

The company producing them told me they could get a company to do the shipments for $5,000 which would be door to door. Now im not sure if this is a good price or not but it doesn't seem so.

I'm just looking for any suggestions anybody can give me, any pointers or help...because i want to make this a successful first import but i am worried because i do not know much about it.

Thank You!

The container size: 5.89 x 2.35 x 2.39 m,but the inside volume is 28CBM more or less we can to use . For this table, the quantity of 20'GP is 450pcs more or less. The quality of 20'GP is 4500KGS.

Replying to [Myles] i can say that if your suppliers offers you that cost for a frieght charge, it would be more easier for you. but my suggestion is you can look for another forwarder and brokers ask for their service charge and compare. if the price is little difference i suggest to pursue your suppliers offer. it is less worries on your side.

Learn from you message,I think you might use FOB term.In the view of safety, you'd better find a local forwarder to arrange all the shipments for you.in this way,you can contact with forwarder directly and have better control of your goods.

Here are my suggestions for your safe business in China:

1. Source several forwarders in Ningbo, comparing their prices and advantages and then choose a best one to deal with. Here are more forwarders from Ningbo:
http://www.95105556.com/en/default.aspx
http://www.nbchangyun.com/en/about.htm
You can search more via www.google.com later

2. Ask your supplier to insure the goods when necessary ( use CIF terms instead of FOB ).

3. Employ a third party biz service company to have a pre-shipment inspection service before delivery to make sure what you paid is what you're buying in China.

Take care, please feel free to contact me for any question related. [em1][em1]

Replying to [Myles]:I understand your worry about customs duty and other taxes. You always get a price quote CIF door to door Or DDP ( Delivery duty paid). Then it will easy for you. Further to reply your another point about $5000 for door delivery, in my experice, that price might be O.K. But you should cross check within the competetion.

This is normal worry for your first transaction from other country like china .There also have the same experience like my other USA freinds .Just to have some expereince to share each other . Firstly .it is better you come to china to have the good visit with your factory face to face and to know the Ning bo factory exaclty .Then you just share with your facotry about your near sea port in USA .And let the supplier side to share the shipment cost for you as Door to CY.And it can be reduce your cost compared to DOOR TO DOOR .since in china .if it provide from the USA port to your door .it is very expensive compared to that you find your broker in your port .the broker just arrange to pick up the cargo and you just inform your broker to quote your cost from USA port to your door . To be sure .it should be practical way and reduced shipment cost way .

Hi, for the shipping cost, you could search forwarder on alibaba and then compare about the price.

As said from your supplier that door to door, but you should know that customer duty or tax will be paid by you, no body could pay it.

There is sth you should consider :

1.When you receive the goods and clear the good from the custom in your country , you should consider whether there is any special custom rule about your product . You can consult with your craft brother .

2 , If you want to make assured of all the things , you can use the DOOR to Door term . It is safe and convient for you but costly . You can asked some forwarder in your country to learn more about the shipment charge .

Though , it is your first time to import sth from other countries ,you will do more business in future , so in my opinion , you should try to use the shipment by sea . It is not so complicated . If you be care ,it is easy to go !
