Part 1......How to build a simple website with min. amount of money.

Today I am just going to talk about where to find and look for stuff to learn and build your website......when I have enough time, I will talk about programming codes, software, design, color, theme, etc on other part series.

What I am about to write is from my own personal experience as an amateur web designer. I am not trained as a professional designer and I had no prior programming experience in my university. I started working on making and designing my company website as a form of hobby and I became more and more interested in the development.

Website is the window of information for your customers overseas. It has a lot of potential and creates window of business opportunity. Every company should make an effort to improve and upgrade company homepage as much as possible.

Instead of paying more than $2000 for a basic webpage and close to $5000 for a basic webpage + blog + shop cart, I pay only for a monthly fees for my domain name, server, database....etc..(for your information I could have my own server with apache, mysql database, ftp, etc in my office for free if I wanted to, but what the heck, I am too lazy, and the ipower.com is cheap IMO. LOL..)

1. Web building Software

These are essential...

Programming: Dreamweaver, Frontpage etc etc...
Design: Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash
FTP: Find any free software from www.download.com

2. Opensource

Open source codes are programming codes and files that were already made by students and programmers who believes that all these codes should be free. Unlike Microsoft who keeps code, these programmers gave it away. There are many opensource code already available for use. Here are some of them that you can use.

3. Free Web Templates

There are many free templates on the net that you should use it as a reference. It is not that I discourage using free templates, but it will beat the purpose of making and designing your own website.

Google "web design templates" and you will have a list of websites that offer free templates and non-free templates. I don't want to suggest any here because there are so many of them.....

4. Free Photo

www.123rf.com is a good place to find free photos taken by professional photographer for your website. But of course there are non-professional photo as well. Usually good photos only cost $1.00 which is very cheap...
