Replying to [yarenimex]: Not exactly. I was doing some research and found that there are instances where meat is a by product of the leather industry. The handling of skins can determine the price they fetch so for high quality skins, the slaughter etc... focuses on the optimal removal of the skin so that no animal fats get on it which may cause it to rot.
The type of tanning process determines the amount of chemicals released back in to the environment and what strength of chemicals the tanners are exposed to. I was trying to get someone to tan their rabbit skins instead of throwing them away, but the time and work involved put me off as he is already working hard with the rabbits and otherwise.
