Whether rexin, artificial leather replace leather market?
Post 1 of 9

Nowadays we are seeing artificial leather products: we cannot differentiate artificial and  pure leather without doing some test.

And the artificial leather is cheep and available easily.

So it is good also to adopt artificial leathers and save the natural

Of course it will be good if artificial leather can be used instead of natural leather, if it is cheaper.
But what will happen to all those people taht are now employed in the tanning industry???

Replying to [curdrice]: Also, consider what is the overall cost to the environment of making artificial leather.
How many gallons of water etc... go in to the making of the product?
How many noxious chemicals are released into the atmonsphere?

If we can get a comparison of the two products regarding such details we could make a better determination as to the real costs and if we are willing to pay it or even if our children are going to pay the price.

Both artificial leather and leather are bad to environment of nature if there are overproduced, the first one are produced with industry waste and damage, the second one will reduce the quantity of animals.
But produce them reasonably will be very useful for human being. How to control the situation is the most important.

In industry of textile, now more artificial leather are insteading of leather because of cheaper price and big quantity, and also they can be make to more designs and purpose. So artificial leather and leather are used in different area.

Having their skins is not the only reason for slaughtering the animals. It is only one of the by-products such as blood, bones, horns, nails, intestines etc.from the animals. The main reason for slaughtering is their meats which feed the human. In any case for their meats, these animals will be slaughtered as the the industry and people will be in demand for meat. What will all the skins be then ? I think it will be wiser to tan them rather leaving them to rot for garbage as environmental problem.

Keeping the nature is a good action worth to perform.Animal husbandry is a huge industry and slaughtering can be done under control with no harm to the nature, and I think those people in the animal husbandry, tannery and leather textile can go on earning their bread and butter, by using both the artificial and geniuine leather whichever and whenever they need.

Replying to [yarenimex]: Not exactly. I was doing some research and found that there are instances where meat is a by product of the leather industry. The handling of skins can determine the price they fetch so for high quality skins, the slaughter etc... focuses on the optimal removal of the skin so that no animal fats get on it which may cause it to rot.

The type of tanning process determines the amount of chemicals released back in to the environment and what strength of chemicals the tanners are exposed to. I was trying to get someone to tan their rabbit skins instead of throwing them away, but the time and work involved put me off as he is already working hard with the rabbits and otherwise. [em4]

Replying to [curdrice]:People buy leather for its distinct qualities. "Resins" are oil based products that do not share the same properties and are highly flamable, even the burn resistant PU types.

Fake leather will not replace authentic leather. However, it will continue to boom like the rest of the knockoff low cost market.
