business with Africa... Truth or scam?...
Post 1 of 9
I have been approached by many "buyers" from East and West Africa... ofcourse ALL have some type of story about long term contracts...
has anybody else had the similiar experience and how to weed out true from false?...
we have a brand new product very much suitable for this continent but these guys make me laugh when they try to get my stuff on word alone...
any comment?

Slawek,

I am going to answer this one from just a PERSONAL view. I am NOT saying every potential sale in west africa etc is not worth the effort.

That being said, I personally delete every contact I get from those countries. My reasoning is simple. I don;t have my own contacts in that region to help me cheak out a potential buyer, I know enough to know that corruption in many of those countries is obscene, making trading their incredibly complex, too many "civil wars" etc, and too many scammers in the region.

The costs I would incur checking out all these companies just iss't worth it in terms of money and time to me.

Note: I am NOT saying there are not deals to be had in Africa. I am just saying from my personal point of view, the hurdles are too many and too high to make it worth my time at this point.

Thank you for your input... I am very hot on going with my product into it (Africa)...
Of course, I do not want to get burn...
All bulletins I am getting from local US ambassies in countries of interest indicate need for this product. ... and I will do it... but on my terms...
I have been contacted by "government" official from "unilateral commision on bettering Africa for the Future Generations"...:-)))))
telling me how they want business and so on...
but ! I yet have to find a normal guy there, who would have a full support of American company, and who wants to build up and develop this opportunity...
I do not know if there is even someon like this...

Thanks for your input... will keep you posted...
Sincerely

Slawek,

Contact me on TM and you can give me some more info on what you have and I might be able to better suggest which countries you should concentrate on to start (ie. the ones where you are LEAST likely to get ripped off)

Trust what Foow says. Contact him via Trade Manager and chat with him, as there are many fraudsters in many African countries. If they promise you  HUGE unheard of quantities, or ask you to register with their government departments, and send money for such registration, then it WILL be a scam.

Do your Due Diligence BEFORE you  deal with them. There are many honest and reliable companies in Africa, but for every genuine one, there are 5-10 scammers.

Replying to [surge protection]:the truth is that do not pay anyone to register anything or send anthing for free. But legitimate COmpany will contact you if its a good opportunity and they will pay to order all those government contract and huge orders are fake but serious sellers when they contact you will know. Also when request for documents and have your embassy or trade commission in that COuntry check it out for you .

Replying to [surge protection]:We also often receive inquiry from Africa, no scam till now ,but also no success deal, the price in that region is too low to accept . In my opinion, if you really want to do business with them, you'd better search their information from internet first, making sure if its information is true,
Good luck [em1]
