May be there are some commumication problems before you order the products. such as you have other demands, the factroy agreed with you immidiately, but the factrory did not pay attention to it after face to face talking, and you never mentioned it again. So the problems happened.

Similar things happened in my company. During negotaion, the cutomer asked a very important part for free. But  the translor didi not know the machine very well, so told the manager who can not speak English the customer need another parts. The manager agreed supplying without thinking because the wrong part is small and cheap. The customer signed the contract but not mentioned it in the contract. Three months passed, the customer receviced his cargo but missiing the part he needed. He asked the factroy shipped the right parts for him, but the factroy said they did agree to supply it for free, because the part is very expensive.

So I suggested you write down clearly to avoid unhappy things happen

Hope you can get the right order quickly through negotitaion

Good luck

Emily

I think some bad scammer ruins chinese people's pride.

I don't think it as an usual chinese trade style, but they just lure innocent  foreign buyer

to spoil expensive dollars!  what a shame !

I think Alibaba.com must have members rank a trust satisfactoty status when finished

 trade with another members.

If such  system works, we can not dare to pay in advance when somebody  listed  scammed experience before.

I have been in contact with a company on trade manager. After a few days i placed an order and paid in advance. The company sent me wrong item. And when I asked them to send me the correct one, they say that I have to place another order so they can send me what I was going to have in the first place, with the new order. If I dont order any more from them, they will not send me the item I was going to have in my first shipment.

Is this according to usual business practice in China?

Well, i Think that its a little dificult if you go with a lot of presure, but sometimes its necesary because china recetly is open with APEC. Remember that in Peru was the APEC meeting, with 21 economy. Asia Pacific Pacific Economic Cooperation.  And this monster is opening to the world.[em9]

This is usual, and we have been dealing with a Chinese company for 2 years now.

We have some problems with the sets they sent in the last batch, the instruments were not working, and our customer claims warranty service.

They sent back the sets from Australia, and we sent back to China, and declared a value which is less than 10% of the actual value. The sales person at the other side makes much protests, saying that she has to pay RMB16 for the tax. She claimed that the company does not pay for the re-import tax, and it has to come out of her own pocket money. I told her to resign from the company and look for another job, because this company is not familiar with International trade.

The company in China did the repair, only changed a fuse, and then asked for our courier accounts. They send it back and charged to our account, and we realised we have to pay for freight from Australia, back to China, and return to us, and then back to Australia, the total amount is 2 times the cost of the equipment.

This is China's practice: All purchases has to be payment in advance. After clearing the money from their bank, then they start to make the product, which will take another 1 or 2 weeks, but some takes 4 to 5 weeks.

All the while, the buyer like us takes 100% risk, not knowing the quality of the product, all we see is the specifications of the brochures, which may not be true.

There is minimum order quantity of 100 pieces or 1000 pieces of the product, or a minimum order value of US$5000.00. The buyer is responsible for their own freight, if you want to arrange for the freight prepaid, you have to pay the supplier in advance also the courier charges, which is usually higher than what you will pay if you get your own forwarder to collect the goods from the Chinese factory.

The Chinese company does not make the product, may be some of them, but most of the products are made by other Chinese factory. How do you know? Check for the same product from other suppliers, and check with them for the prices, if they are cheaper, that means the originator of the product is from the cheaper priced supplier.

After working with them for some time, say two years and more, they become proud and insensitive to your feelings and frustrations about the quality of the product and their attitude to you is becoming complacent.

I don't believe this is the usual way of doing business in China or anywhere in the world, for that matter. There could be 2 possibilities in this case. One, there could be a miscommunication factor regarding the product & two, the worst scenario, its one of the minority of  black sheep among all the other majority of honest businessman or woman in the world. If its true, Its very unfortunate that you have met such a situation. I will pray that there will be less & less of such unscrupulous people among us.[em4]
