I have been in contact with a company on trade manager. After a few days i placed an order and paid in advance. The company sent me wrong item. And when I asked them to send me the correct one, they say that I have to place another order so they can send me what I was going to have in the first place, with the new order. If I dont order any more from them, they will not send me the item I was going to have in my first shipment.

Is this according to usual business practice in China?

It looks like a usual scamming technique.

Just think that what would you do if they does the same thing again? What is the guarantee that they will send the correct item next time? Would you like to place third order then?

You can advise them that you are willing to pay the transportation fee for dispatch of correct item (if they are hesitant to pay for it which they shouldn't be if they are genuine company and acknowledging their mistake).

This is the case of ordering a horse, they supplied a donkey.

That is because they had a donkey in stock, and if you insists on the horse, they ask for new order.

This is typical of Chinese companies, they are only interested to deal in bulk order, in the MQO (Minimum Quantity Order) of 1000, or 100 for large items. Anything less than that, is considered as samples. The other norm is the Advance payment by t/t, and they want to 'see' the Benjamin Franklins first, before dispatching the goods. After you pay, that is it, you may or may not get the goods, or get inferior goods, or goods that are not the right type as to your order, that is all on your risk.

Till today, I can say that all Chinese companies practise the same policy of money first, delivery later, there is absolute zero trust to the buyer, and they have high demand to be trusted, which as in the US Dollar Note printed "In God We Trust" (not in companies or governments or people).

I should say most paid members on Alibaba are reliable and could have smooth and satisfactory cooperation. However, many incident and emergency events would be possible arise with the dealing, such as cargo break during transit, sample and order confirmation etc. These need joint cooperation to solve them. Just as the mottos says   Time reveals a man's heart,  so mutual trust will deepen with the time going. I hope all could be honest and reliable in dealing, not to spoil the iamge of paid members on Alibaba.[em1]

I strongly say No to it. I believe you are aware of that China being the major exporters globally, will not take this kind of steps.

The best thing is to deal backed by LC to ensure your product and quality. I will not be able to make any concrete statement because you have not disclosed the name of the company and the product you have choosen for.

China is one of the most competetive market globally. Any Importer or Exporter can not make more profits if excluded china.

What i senced from your words that there might be possibilities for wrong shipment due to wrong order placed.

I advise you to talk to the trade manager to resolve the issue. I strongly believe that trade manager will resolve the issue and make you happy.
