How to verify company from Russia?
Post 1 of 14
Hello everyone,

I am about to start business with a company from Russia - everything seems to be fine but the supplier is asking for 30% T/T in advance because is the first time for us.

Can anyone sugest a way to verify that this company is legitimate and really deals with what they say?

Thank you.

Replying to [pako]:I do no know that how can you get details of this company to satisfy yourself that they are scammars or not.But that is very normal that they ask you for 30% advance T/T becuase of first deal with you.

Replying to [pako]: Here is a link where you can request to verify the suppliers provided they are legally registered

Replying to [pako]:Yes I understand but how can I be sure that I will see them again after I make the payment - I suppose you can never tell or maybe prior to the payment you can insist on all docuuments required for the transaction to be presented to you... maybe?

1.They may be aware if they would make work for you and you will abort.
2.They will pass goods and you after getting it will disapper.
3.They are cheats.
This is normal for Russia to make prepaid but you should be sure they are not cheats.
Try to get information in internet. If there are plenty of it, especially in English -- that's good. One more: go to some forum in the city, where that firm is located and ask, who knows about them.
But the very exact answer you can get only to apply to a private investigator.

It is very uncertain market.
I share your concern and would recommend to request their bank details first. Call the bank youself(!) and verify the information if the company is reliable indeed.

Best option - open an LC. Thus, you will protect yourself from any surprises in the future.

Replying to [pako]: You can get a credit rating report from a reputed agency like Dun & Bradstreet, also ask for his customers / vendors list and verify the same. If the customer / vendor is located in a big city like Moscow / St Petersburg you can ask the Indian embassy to help out in the verification

Hello Everybody ! !

Basically, Russia is a high-risk Import & Export Market.

However, conditions have rapidly changed over the past 2 to 3 years.

You should first sign a contract & the contract should mention the bank account as it is should be a Russian Bank Account & not some Offshore account.

If the payment is being received in Russia, the concerned company has to show the exports procedure.

You should be clear on the remaining payment part as well.

You should be clear on the Third party inspection certificates; & get the documents legalized from the Embassy of the Country of Destination.

You can ask the Seller, the origin/Manufacturer of the goods in Russia to counter-check.

You can also ask the seller links to other buyers in other countries where he could have been selling this product >

Best of luck for Business from Russia ! [em15]
