A challenge - how can he find out so many email address of the buyers?

Last time some one told me that some one having rich exprience in oversea's trading can send six or seven hundred emails to the buyers. I was amazed. Where and how can he find out so many email address of the buyers?

For example, there are many trade commerce in Japan that you can sign up, pay a fee to be a member and you will have hundreds of emails of companies that relates to your trade.
There are many online websites that collect and print all these data into a hardcopy book (like a business phonebook) and you can buy it for like $500 - $2000 depending on your field of interest.
It is not that hard, but I do not find it useful and it is a waste of money since only small companies will answer your email...

There are sites that can give you the names and email address of your potential clients.
