Though sometimes i think that T/T and L/C can not be compared , it is seemed that L/C is more reasonable than T/T payment .
L/C can give assurance and restrict to both supplier and buyer .
When using L/C , it does not mean the buyer do not trust the supplier . It is just a safter way to do business . It ensure the buyer can receive the goods in time while the supplier get payment at time.
Payment terms are vary from company to company . So , considering your true situation , choose your own right style !

Replying to [Catalyst]: Hi Catalyst , You must not be sad because of this " inadequate comparison " because everywhere you try to inform your self what is the best way to foreign payments , you'll find a numerous answers regarding t/t and l/c "putting them in the same bucket" - therefore there's no need for being sad.
We all know that l/c is one sort of bank guarantee , however it has been used as a mode of payment , less used honestly speaking , than t/t payment .
It is true that every mode has its advantages and disadvantages , my opinion is following : big buyers , big companies with lots of property should use l/c as a way of payment , small companies should use t/t .

Replying to [rafli]:In this matter , sometimes the buyer accept documents altough there are discrepancies ( small ones ) , but in case of big ones , he may inform his bank that he won't accept them.
Anyway if he give you straight instructions without unclear details , you may first answer him could you get all of papers required in order to avoid unpleasant episode in your business .
You must realize that it isn't always a problem in confidence and trust , it ensures delayed payment enabling buyer to make payment without problems.

For the buyers, they prefer to L/C, more safety. and the sellers like T/T, less documents, and operations.

AS AN IMPORTER, WE PREFER THE L/C,BECAUSE THE BANK GUARANTEE THE PROCEES AND ALSO WE CAN ADD SPECIAL CLAUSES,THAT THE EXPORTER MUST TO FULLFIL,FOR RECEIPT THE PAYMENT FROM THE BANK.
ON THE OTHER SIDE THE T/T, THE EXPORTER RECEIPT THE MONEY,AND CAN SEND OR NOT THE GOODS;ALSO CAN SEND GOODS NOT ACCORDING THE STIPULATES BETWEEN BUYER AND SELLER-

I am not sad, really; only frustrated. And this is the very LAST time when I am going to revert to this issue on Alibaba. Let me state my position once and for all.
(a) I have nothing against TT or against LC - or against any mode of settlement, for that matter.
(b) I have only been trying to point out one simple (?) fact: that LC and TT cannot be compared. (TT is only a method or mode of transfer of funds, like draft, cheque, cash.)
I have failed miserably in making my point clear. Therefore, as of this moment, I GIVE UP.
