Globalization - Good or Bad?
Post 1 of 18

Searching through Alibaba Forums, I find very little talks about Globalisation.

This is a very interesting subject, and it affects all of us in the world today. One grateful boy, Belayneh Kasse from Ethiopia wrote:

" Alibaba is one of the means for globalization breaking down the barriers of communication with B2B and B2C. Thank you for bringing the vast globe to a small village!!!".

What is Globalization?

According to the Government of Canada, Economic concepts of Globalization:

The term "globalization" describes the increased mobility of goods, services, labour, technology and capital throughout the world. Although globalization is not a new development, its pace has increased with the advent of new technologies, especially in the area of telecommunications."

11 Key questions on Globalisation - a hot debate issue.

There are two camps, one the anti-globalization camp, and the other the pro-globalization group.

Julianap from Romania copies and pastes the anti-globalization posting in Alibaba Forum twice. There are world organised protesters against globalization.

There are many pro-globalization groups and economic experts who support globalization. They say that "Globalization brings peace and prosperity" ... The Independent Institute.

Diffusion of Prosperity and Peace by Erich Weede

Can we ignore Globalization? Or avoid it and not grow in our economies. What does the Internet and the WWW has to do with Globalization?

This is going to be a debate: For the motion and against the motion.

Globalization - Bad
Reasons
1) Corruption is increasing. Dont have to tell you..
2) Pollution, all over the world, climate circle is changed a lot due to of this so called Globalization..
3) Arm Race is generated between countries. We are sitting on an edge of Nuclear bombs.. Every country want to own it as they have fear from there neighbour country.
4) Health Factor is decreasing. 60 years back people like to eat fresh meat, vegetables, now they are living on Macdonalds, KFC, Pizz, Frozen food.
5) Poor are getting more poor and rich are getting richer

Any one disagree, please give me reasons...
It's going to be a long debate..

Ammeet,

Thank you for the opening 5 points AGAINST the motion - Globalisation. Being the first person to make the points give you ownership, the next person who repeats your points will not be credited. But the person who rebuts your points with supportive evidence (can be reference to website) will gain your points until it is counter rebuttal from you with evidence of facts.

Please post in the thread below to claim your 300 MVPs, you may find joining the Business Culture answering to the Questions more rewarding.

As those others have their Best Answers rankings jumped the ladder to the top 10 positions, you also have this chance.

There is the last quarter 2006 competition for the highest MVP for Best Answer selection. The leader has about 1300 MVPs at this moment, and there is no way to catch up if you spend your time answer questions which only give 10 MVP or so.

So, work smart, not just working hard to win the race. Good luck.

From this juncture, moderator will remain neutral and will not express either opinion or suggestions.

This of course is the wrong question. It implies that globalisation arrives like a meteor from outer space. But its better then to ask is trade good or bad?
The question should be “how could be control the globalisation?”

How would this be a debatable issue if how could we control Globalization?

It is one man's meat another man's poison issue with either yes or no answer that can be an issue to debate.

Hello Street,

Very generous reward awaits the winner of this topic.
Technically this is no debate, since there is no head to head competition and
rebuttals. What we have here is the best argument or rather statement supporting
their opinion.

Let's start off by saying there are no wrong or correct
answers here. Why? because the people which make up this Globe called Earth will
be the ones who will decide what is best for them.

For the sake of your topic I will take a PROactive
position
. My reason for this is simple. No matter the ultimate outcome there are
always great benefits gained when mankind work together towards a common goal.

From the beginning of time civilizations have tried to
merge people together from other cultures into theirs. Either by force,
political powers, environmental reasons or to escape persecution.

Most countries or civilizations worldwide have been
conquered or submitted to a greater power for many reasons thus a blending or
globalization has occurred almost from the beginning of times.

Today as in the past we will always have opposition
movements to any activity that would affect the majority of people in any
civilization as such many wars, uprisings and protests will be created by these
efforts of one side trying to affect the m with a changing culture.

Today we have many parts of the world which already are
sub-globalized which means that in a particular region there is a combining of
cultures and countries to form what is called a commonwealth or union of
nations. Such as the European Union which we have today.

The common goals of each member nation had to be met for
each country to agree before joining this union. As such there were many
opposition groups when it was proposed but after all was said and done, the
Union was made and the countries now have a pool of supporters (other country
members) to help each other where there was none before.

Benefits usually achieved by Globalization:

  1. Pooling of economic resources from all members
  2. Increased buying power of commodities thus lowering the
    cost of goods
  3. More diversified population creating a more rounded
    labor pool
  4. Communication barriers are removed because all members
    are in a common community
  5. Laws are modified and enhanced to create a better
    trading environment.
  6. Resources are now shared at a reduced cost because
there is less handling of money and a unified economic system.
  7. Sharing of technologies are encouraged, education
    becomes more available.
  8. Trading between buyers and sellers can now take place
over boundaries where commerce was once very regulated.

Overall Globalization is a perpetual work in progress. As
new trends begin, some will end allowing for your typical change of environment.
Today with the advent of the computer, the worldwide web and mass media
information is obtained in just seconds. Businesses and governments can adjust
their direction so to avoid situation that can easily have been catastrophic.

With air transportation and now commercial space travel on
the horizon we will now bring our Globalization into another direction when we
start placing civilization on the moon and planets beyond.

Replying to [Street Smart]: In a consumer standpoint, globalization is very good. Consumers now have a wider choice when they buy. Prices will be driven down by cheap imports. Because of this pricing pressure, local manufacturers are forced to put competitive prices to combat the increase demand for cheaper import. In globalization, Customer is King. As a consumer, I am really in favor in globalization and free trade.

The other side of the coin though is that some economies will suffer due to lack of competitveness of their products. Many local industries will be "killed" which can result to lose of jobs. Countries that are already lagging behind in technology and productivity will have a harder time competing against giant economies. In the end globalization will make the Rich, richer and the poor, poorer.

Big economies will not worry as much as small and poor countries. Globalization should be a long and slow process to allow other economies to develop its own competitve advantage when it comes to product and services.

Corruption is increasing but not because of Globalisation. It is the outcome of human mind who wants to achieve without thinking of the ways they are going on. Both giver and taker are responsible for that.

You cannot blame that globalisation is the main cause for Pollution. Earlier we used to cook food in Chulha, Sigdi, Chimni wasn't the fumes from that causing the pollution? Train were used to have coal and other inputs wasn't causing the pollution. Now we have Electrical trains which doesn't have any side effect.

Regarding the Nuclear bomb situation I would like to made you clear that it is also the human who has used this source of energy for destroying the nature. He wants to earn power. when the evil of Man awake this kind of problem arises.

As far as health factor is concerned I would like to mention that many medicines has developed. In earlier times villages were vanished because of Plague, Cholera etc. Now we have easy access to all medicines (Regarding the food I have already replied in the topic posted by Nitya.)

Globalization ??? what's meaning of this word

Globalization is a life , a way , a method to explain how do you know, watch , see , .....how do you communicate , talk , discuss ....how do you offer, buy , sell and deal with any company at the earth as you do with the near company at your street
when I say your street I mean this word with all meanings( no time to deal , no time to sell or buy or ,no time catch your prouducts or your money..no cost fright and no customs duties )
you can buy from china and sell to Italy from your office at Egypt or India
... we talk about Globalization to know it is a bad or good ...but in fact It is an incomplete Globalization ( may be It's 40% of the complete Globalization)...

what's the complete Globalization?????
what's the way to set up the complete Globalization??????
what's the ideal Globalization????????
what are the problems of the complete Globalization??????
what are the solutions ???????????
who's the winner at the complete Globalization???????
who's the loser at the complete Globalization????????

please wait me at the part 2
