I'm not in a major port in Australia. My supplier in China has quoted me $250 for a 7.5kg parcel.

That seems a bit much. Is there any other way of getting is parcel to me cheap?

it seems that it's a little higher than before as we are sent to our customer before.
or maybe you can asking them which express company they are use ? because different express company have different price.
or you can asking them to checking with different company for the price to you.
sometime you can going to some express company website to checking the price by yourself. like FEDEX, TNT, UPS and so on.
they can get some discount from those company.

The supplier said she is sending by UPS or fedEx. Is there another carrier that I can use? How realiable is the postal service in China?

Then I came across www.sendfromchina.com, has anyone used this service?

It may seems pricy, but my question is what products are you getting? At this price, shipping fees for frozen food is quite normal. You may have to consider other charges as well... but like I said, what products are you getting.

The best way is why dont you set up a Fedex account or a UPS account or a Local Chinese Shipping account suggested by many here in Alibaba for yourself. And whenever you want to make a shipment, tell you supplier to ship it thru your account. In this way, you will know that they cannot cheating on you.

However, jadedev, if your supplier is honest, they may actually give you a better shipping rate because Chinese supplier often send out bulk shipment every month, and they normally get 10-20% discount.

Good Luck

$250AUD for 7.5kg is about right for express courier (2 to 3 days delivery where the courier company clears the goods through Customs for you and delivers the parcel to your door).

Your much cheaper alternative is "normal" air freight (up to 7 days where you yourself must do Customs clearance once the parcel arrives at your capital city airport, and take delivery at the airport).

For the latter, your supplier can get a quote for you through its own freight forwarder. However, first study Australian Customs website and talk with Customs by phone to make sure you are comfortable to do your own import paperwork. Otherwise it will cost you around $100 for an Import Broker to do this.

Generally, samples are couried. Subsequent commercial orders are shipped by normal airfreigt or by sea. Normal airfreight from China to Australia costs my company around $4.80USD per kg for consignments exceeding 200kg.

HI Foow

I know you guys must be busy with your import/export, so I didn't want to bother you guys. As long as you guy are ok for newbies to ask question, then I would be delighted to contact you guys.

Anyway, after going through many qoutes, I have settled with a company with a pretty good price, well in my opinion anyway.
