How to Work SMARTER
Post 1 of 14
Every new year, Singaporeans make new resolution, or Year Plan for their personal and corporate goals.

The motivation speakers spoke on the SMART way to set your goals, but KONG HEE, taught a group of about 30,000 people to set SMARTER Goals, I have adjusted some of them, and hope the readers have something to gain from this.

*** A R T E R

  1. Specific - set specific goals.
    1. What do you want to achieve, you have to set your aim at the target.
    2. Focus on the target, not to be too general.
  2. Measurable - Set measurable goals.
    1. You need to quantify your goals. E.g. you set your goal to lose weight, by how much?
    2. With the measurement you can gauge your progress, and adjust your action if the goals are not met.
  3. Action plan -
    1. Without an action plan, your goals are just wishful thinking, and your dreams are just dreams, which may turn out to be nightmares if you failed to take action and seize the opportunity.
    2. If you plan to lose 10 kg of body weight for example, you will have to work out an exercise program, go the gym, or jogg for 3 to 5 km a day, for 3 days a week, and do 50 inclined sit-ups, lift 20 kg with both arms for 20 times, etc.
  4. Realistic - Are your goals realistic and attainable?
    1. If your goals are beyond your ability to achieve, you will get discouraged and give up.
    2. Example: if you set your goal to climb mount Everest, then you must have climbed other lower mountains before, and trained for mountain climbing.
  5. Time frame for these goals.
    1. There should be a time frame, as when are you going to achieve those goals.
    2. The time-table for the year plan to do what and to attain the objectives.
  6. Evaluation adjustment - Under the circumstances would you consider adjustments?
    1. In event of unforeseen circumstances, such as a tragic event, or financial status change, E.g. you lose your job, got retrenched.
    2. Wise men have contingencies and plan B as backup plans, and you must be flexible to change if the plan does not work, or something turns up, which make your goals unattainable.
6. Reflection - on your achievements and set new goals.
    1. Take time to make a reflection on your achievements, have you got the goals you set?
    2. Take your goals to a new level, after you have gone over the old goals. Move on to the next step.

You can have your own chart, guidelines or forms to fill.

As many as you have goals, each specific goal, one form and fill up the flow chart of the steps to take.

Life is full of materials, ideas and concepts that we can learn from each other.
