Dr. Bernard, a leading motivator speaker said: "Change is necessary for a better future". When one is doing the same thing as what one was doing last year, and expect to go on to a higher level, there is little possibility to achieve it, unless one change the way and breaks the routine. If you know that you are stuck in the mud, then jump out of it, and grab a lifeline to be successful in life.
I watched a show over television entitled "The Weather Man". It is about a weather reporter in Chicago. David Spritz (Nicholas Cage) was working very hard, stayed in after office hours, ate his meals feeding on fast food, and had no time to spend with his wife and children, pre-teen daughter and a 15 year-old son. Shelly (Germmenne de la Periá) did badly in school, picked up smoking and her classmates were name-calling her 'camel toe'. David's son had trouble with the law on drug abuse, was sexually abused by his rehab counsellor, Don (Gil Bellows). David's wife, Noreen played by Hope Davis, had an affair with his neighbour, Russ (Michael Rispoli).
Dave had a well-paid job, but without the job satisfaction, low self-esteem and in deep depression. Wherever he was, people pelted him with half eaten pizza, hamburgers and called him names, touting him. He tried to live up to his father's reputation as a Pulitzer-Prize winning author, Robert Spritzel played by Michael Cain. Robert was diagnosed with advanced cancer of the soft tissues, and Dave's wife was seeking for a divorce.
He went to the hospital to visit dad, and told him about a job interview in New York the "Hello America" program. The dying dad gave him this advise, to jump out of the mire and go for the opportunity and make a change. In the midst of all his problems, Dave managed enough courage and resolved to take a flight to New York and go for the interview. The interview was another challenge, his major is not in meteorology physics, but in some other discipline, and the studio set was so much advanced than that of Chicago, there is computer graphic superimposed weather map, showing the air pressure and temperature and humidity. The weather man forecasts the weather out of their own analysis, and he predicated hailstones in New York the next day.
After the interview, he went back to Chicago to be in court for the divorce case. The next day, the hail stone came, and he got the job in the America's top television show, with a pay rise of more than 100%. David moved to New York with his son and started a new life there, playing golf, shooting arrows and gain respect from the public as one of the top weather forecaster. The story ends with his success in life.
