Hi Fei Wong,

You write good English, better than most people I know here in the forum.

You must have a reason to quit, got the that state of mind, either you think of changing your job or giving up, and throw in the towel.

Anyway, the reason for your boss to refuse you from leaving could be varied, but for one good reason is you are the best person to communicate with the English speaking world. .. you are a great asset to the company.

On this position, you have to talk to your boss about your reason for wanting to resign, and asking him/her to make provision for you to stay. For example, if you are fed up with the low wages, you can ask the boss for a pay increase. If s/he refuses to comply, then you can just leave after serving your notice, you are not obligated to stay. But do not play this card too many times, otherwise your boss will get irritated and will find alternative person to replace you and be ready for your next act.

I do not know about the labour law in China, but here we have the Government Labour office who takes care of employees. If we want to quit, like I did during my working days, we simply serve our notice by a letter of resignation. We are only obliged to stay until the period of notice according to the contract. If the employer wants us to stay, they have to negotiate for a better term. But I quit because there is better job offer from other company, and higher position of work and higher salary.

Hi Indra, thank you for your advice.
Actually, I've tried to explain to him why I wanna quit, but he even didn't listen to me. He just shake his hand in disapproval.
So, I even don't have a chance to OPEN my mouth.[em11]

Hi Joyce, thank you for approving of my written English. [em3]
Frankly, the most important reason that why I don't feel like working here is: I have to work without any weekends, and I have to work from morning till midnight everyday. I can not stand this anymore. But since I didn't say "no" about this at the beginning, I 'm embarrassed to ask for more spare time now.
And I don't feel happy working here anymore, that's also a main reason.
Also the salary is not very good, either. But since I've agreed at the beginning, I won't ask for more now. [em11]
In one word, I wanna quit.
In China, there's also Labour office who helps us employees.
Although he even didn't see my letter of resignation. I will leave as planned, I think. Maybe I can not get the salary of my last month working here, but I don't care anymore.
But hope he will agree at last. [em7]

Replying to [Fei Wong]:Hello Fei Wong, Unless you are working under contract you are free to leave the job. By writing your letter of resignation you have tried to leave the company on good terms. Even though your boss refuses to accept it, you do not have to stay if you don´t want to.

You do write English very well and will be a great asset to any new company that hires you. Just rember a few things when interviewing for a new company.

First, be honest about why you changed jobs, but don´t say anything negative about your former boss/job.

Second, when discussing the salary and work hours be willing to negotiate. Remember you are in international business, not fliping hambergers in a fast food resturant. A good boss will like some one willing to negotiate and not just take what is offered to them.

Finally, take some time to think about this new job offer to make sure it is what you want. Make sure that there is an oportunity for you to grow in the company. This will prevent you from having to change jobs again real soon.

I hope that this was able to help you. I want to wish you all the best of luck.
Regards,
David
