Quoting from [HMSIMPORT]:

Hello I am in contact with a UK based company that has published 4470 numbers. After reading the 4470 scammers thread I asked for VAT ID or a  landline number with proper area code and they are refusing to give me any of that information citing various reasons. I also did an IP trace for their emails and found them to be originating from Nigeria. They are asking for 30% deposit to issue an invitation letter to inspect the goods. My suspicion grew when I found their english horrible in emails they write. So many spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.

But they are giving me a company registration certificate with a registration number which is valid with the correct name. They sent me a scanned copy of the registration certificate. This is to import HMS scrap and they sent me a SGS certificate also but when I went to SGS website to check that certificate that number was not there in theie certified clients database. Here is the info on the company

Name: Metal Artefacts Limited

Address : 161-163 FOREST ROAD, WALTHAMSTOW, LONDON, E17 6HE

Phone: 44--703--189-1343 Fax: 44--870--974-7276

Can someone please let me know whether I should proceed to discuss business with them or should I cut off.

If you have money to give away, you are better off findin a charitable organization.  Once you find descrapancies in their business and fake documents, you should drop like a lead ball. This Web site has too many fake business men. Let me correct that. They are not businessmen but scammers. I have yet to find a reliable contact here that is honest and trustworthy. Are there any out there? Am ready to do business if you're out there

I think alibaba should have a department to report companies that are trading and advertising on here that did not satisfy their customers !

I see no reason to become a  paying memeber here. This web site is a dis-service to anyone trying to do business honestly

I recently joined alibaba. I won't give my opinions on the website, but i do want to share this with you.

I sent a message around saying that i was looking for clothes - i got a few replies back, and got talking to one supplier on MSN - i looked at his website, and enquired about the cost of his mobile phones - the apple iphone was $250, so i immediately saw dollar signs in my mind! (here's the first tip - if the guy sells clothes, but also phones, don't go near him).

I got to the stage where i was to pay him - we agreed a price of $2000 for ten phones - amazing price - some may say, "too good to be true" - often on the internet, if it seems too good to be true, it is too good to be true. I called Western Union up (here's the second tip - if they only accept Western Union, Bank transfer or anything like this, then they're frauds), and the lady says to me, "$2000 to China? May i ask what this is for?", and i replied, "of course, i'm buying some products" - she said (and if it wasn't for her i maybe would have bought the products), "Sir, i would recommend you use Escrow or Paypal, because we have millions of pounds worth of fraud from China every year".

So, I did my research - the website given to me was usd-usd.com - i of course typed it in, and low and behold, i find out all i needed to know.

1. The website was listed as under different business's - as in, on alibaba, usd-usd.com was part of "Yosin Trading Company", but on another website, it was listed as part of "Forever Trust Trading Co" (ironic, to the point of insulting).

2. Further down the google page, i found this website - http://www.firetrust.com/en/blog/chris/the-bigger-list-of-chinese-scams

A great guide to at least, if not most, of the known chinese web scams - on it, usd-usd.com.

3. Not related to my search, but the guy insisted on Western Union - he wouldn't take no for an answer - Western Union or Bank transfer or nothing. If the person insists on it, avoid at all costs.

What disappoints me is that this guy was an alibaba gold member, and had a trust p *, which you can see here http://jodanshoes.en.alibaba.com/

How can alibaba give this "seal of approval" to con artists? I can't see myself using alibaba again, or at the very least, i will be taking extreme precautions.

What i can say though, is that i've been very lucky. Were it not for that woman, and my subsequent research, including of these forums, i would have paid him $2000. I can't complain in that respect - it's been a very positive lesson for me.

I would just urge alibaba to send in their welcoming e-mail to a new member details of this forum, and the kind of cons that go on. A lot of newbies like myself are the prey which keeps these guys in business - it's not fair on them/us - we see gold alibaba member, trust p *, and think these guys have been verified properly by alibaba - well clearly they haven't been verified to an adequate level. Is that our fault? The alibaba newbie - well of course we have to take some responsibility - check out your suppliers before handing over any money, that's clear, but alibaba need to do more to make us aware.

I hope this experience helps someone.

Good job my friend I personaly was going to do the same but they insist on money order or bank transfer so I stop just like you did. Now I am looking for more lead's

Thanks for sharing these tips Ranan. Greatly appreciated.

It's a shame the Chinese suppliers can't see beyond their nose. They just screwed themselves big time and nobody wants to buy anything from China.

I believe I just fell victim to this as well and I am in deep :(

Alibaba did not warn me at all about their trustpass and gold suppliers. I did business with one already, and obtained a tracking number, I believe them to be legit since they let me use PayPal instead of money transfer.

THe other one tho I went ahead and did a money transfer, They had a trustp *, and I couldnt find any scams linked to their company, and they had a trust pass since 2006...

I just dont get it...

How can this guy be scamming people since 2006 AND STILL HAVE A TRUST PASS??!

In my opinion, Alibaba is totaly at blame for that.

I made 57 sales on Half.com and I dont think my customers are going to get good products >_< Although well I plan on issueing full refunds for all of them if it doesnt work out. I'm out 2000$ :/ Which isnt a whole ton of money in the grand scheme of things. But what hurts most is my pride :( I was so excited about this success.

Your last words I know how you feel . I am a victim of a fisrt time scam in 4 years of doing internet business . I paid a seller western union for $250.00 for a small wholesale order of leli kelly shoes on this site and she gave me a bogus confirmation for the shipment . I have not heard from her since . . What hurts is I was so excited about selling those shoes , I had been looking for someone who sold them for a long time .  I finally find it and get ripped of my money and now nothing to sell .

I worked in real estate for over ten years and used escrows all the time.  an escrow the escrow company takes instructions from both buyer and seller, and treats both as equals.  For example if you are the seller, what will you do if the buyer receives the goods and uses them, then rejects them and returns them to the buyer. What recourse would you have under the terms of the escrow? Not to mention you have lost money with tied up money and inventory.

Also, escrow services are bonded and insured companies and are always afraid of any form of litigation. even if you followed the escrow intructions and performed and the other party did not, if they file a law suit and inform the escrow the escrow service could freeze the transaction until the litigation is resolved which could take years. Litigation is an effective way for a buying party to not perform and get their money back by holding the transaction hostage through the escrow company.

you have two ways to go you can settle with the buyer so they instruct the escrow service that the litigation has been resolved or you can fight the suite in court in which case your legal fees may exceed the value of the goods. If you settle  the terms will not be favorable to the seller and will include amending the escrow to reflect the new terms.

there are no short cuts to international trade.  work with people you have existing relationships with or that can provide suitable refrences. If e not dealing with a trusted party use the old methods of payment in the form of an L/C with the strongest terms.

Ok, i put this summer story here.I have been in here (alibaba)now one month.I have got lot(A LOT)mails from everywhere and this is why i am here. Now it really depends of every each person how they want to buy or sell. Our company has been doing this 33 years an me myself 20.We DONT send ANY products to anywhere without payment.IF any person want to visit us or whatever we are more than happy to receive them.Fos business like phones etc. its more complicated, but DONT buy if you dont know with who you are dealing! Many peaplo are crying here how they lost few hundred dollars or pounds or euros.Dont be STUPID and TRY TO MAKE EASY MONEY.If you live that dream,PUT LOTTERY IN EVERY FRIDAY!!

Good business normaly have many steps and it takes long time to get there. At the moment i think Alibaba is very good site for sale and buy products all over world.PROBLEMS MAKES PERSONS,not this site.I am free member and as good as others. If this work till end of the year like now,i am seriously gonna upgrade to TRUSTP *.

Nice summer for everybody!!

it is a fact that you just met with a bad guy.Any way.We just call scarmmer to be more specificed.

Most gold suppliers, and most of the bosses of these gold suppliers  they just do not work with this sort of  Job and they just pay for some guys to work for them.It is most common and it is the exact Chinese way that bosses of facrtories seldom work, because most of them do not understand english.

So,such being the case, most buyers get misunderstanding about gold suppliers and Alibaba.

I bet that all gold suppliers are really good and the difference is that the guy who is doing that gold factory.if there is a honest and nice guy whom is you are working with,so then you will benefit from him even if that factory is not a gold factory. But so what if you are working with a gold factory with whom there is a scam guy?

So,if you really want to buy these products, try to find another supplier and investgate him wheather you can trust him or not.

it is just nothing to do with Alibaba and any way no business platform can ensure the guy is a good person or not.

Best regards

Tony
