Suppliers in China
Post 1 of 23
I posted a trade lead recently and I got hundred of replies.

It's very strange indeed. The replies that I got; some are genuine, some are not related to ehat I want and some replied with the products I needed.

What I find strange is that the do not give me the full details. I replied asking for the details but they did not come back to me.

One odd-ball replied and asked me to tell him the quantity. I told him that I need to know the materials, colour and sizes. But he replied 4 times with the same answer (Question). "Can you tell me the quantity you want , then I can give you the price"

I got so fed up that I told him I need 50,000 - 40FT HQ container load.

Award 10 MVPs ( What's this? )for the best answer.

Haha... They will give you different prices which depend on the different quantities you need.
And I wonder this seller who continued to ask you the same question must be a green-hand. [em2]

You can't blame all of them. Have you consider the fact that they might not be able to understand your trade lead? Did you make it clear to them when you posted it? Did it occur to you that they might have a little bit of a problem expressing themselves in a foreign language?

Indeed, the quantity is important for evaluating the price.
Maybe he don't want to waist the time you want a small qty, so even do not reply for product details.

Anyway, the polite is terrible for this saleman.

For us, we donot discriminate against the small qty customer, I believe that some day he might be our big customer, and also this is a way of collecting potential customers.

usually price are decided by the quantity.
because everyone known that if the quantity are big,the price will be down . the question are normal for some of thems.
actually they also can give u their MOQ at their side.
but they didn't.
[em2]
maybe you should give other suppliers for more details on next time.
or asking them to give the MOQ to you on the price.

Replying to [Merlion]:I think it a boring question for me if I encounter the same situation. However, if you are a a seller, try to think with changing position, to provide better service for your customer, should you take this detials into account, then put forward the question to your customer? I think so, you won't lose any information. On the other side, only that will you recieve the high quality from your supplier.

Hi Merlion.

It is quite a legitimate question, and you should really treat it as such.

A lot of manufacturers pay different prices for raw materials, depending on the quantity they purchase. This is one reason why this supplier kept asking you.

If you only want, say 5,000 pieces, the manufacturer pays $xx for the raw materials to make these 5,000 products. If you want 50,000, then he can get the raw materials at a slightly cheaper price as he is buying larger quantity of raw materials at the same time.

Besides that, if he ships a 40'HQ, the freight will be different than if he only ships an LCL of 5,000, in which case he has to pay $x per cubic meter in a LCL container.

Whenever I am asked for a quote, I always ask the customer what quantity he wants me to quote on.

Replying to [Merlion]:but she/he was not at the point where she/he was asking such questions. She/he wanted to know about materials and specs and sizes. Maybe she/he would have moved onto asking about quantity and other questions later.
