My friend is from a very small village outside of the Fuyang City in Zhejiang. In his village, the government give the hill resources to the local families, they own all the resources from those hills.

However, many of the people there prefer to do business outside the village, and they thought that making money from the hills was too slow, and only those old people who have nothing to do at home, would take half of the day knocking down the bamboos then sell, and earn 300RMB everyday. And this is the only way that local people making money from the huge hill resources.

In that place, not only my friend's family and his village, but all the villages nearby are wasting the hill resources in that way...And my friend said, if there is good business to do with the hills, he could motivate all the people there to do the business together...

More over, it is not a good idea to make that place a scenic spot, or make real state there, because the environment there is not really good enough, as there are polluting factories nearby, and transportation there is not really convienient.

Overall, I am still very superised that my friend and people around the village cannot make money from those hills. does anyone has any ideas?

The situation is much more complex than evident at first sight. You would have to look at the legal situation regarding ownership and use of the land, the ecological impact caused by cutting down bamboo, the social consequences of having one sector of the local population all the sudden making more money than the rest, etc. You have seen in your own country the negative consequences success can bring with it, haven't you?

It requires a very well done in-depth study to see what's the best way to proceed - if there is any! Maybe a near-by university can help you evaluating the situation and making an assessment. That would be the best way to proceed.

How about grow some fruit trees? I guess it would take 2 years to benefit. But no pains, no gains. As per the ownership and related responsibilities, you'd better cosult with local authority or experts.

RMB 300 per day for working half day that is quite a lot, X 20 days in a month = RMB 6,000

I thought some members here said their income per month is only USD150, approx RMB 1150

There is nothing to complaint about as the income per capita per year in China is just USD5000 approx RMB 3080 per month
http://www.success-and-culture.net/articles/percapitaincome.shtml

That is already almost 2 times of an average income of people in China. Your friend should be glad. Don't exhaust the forest, plant back what they have harvested so that the next generation can continue make an income out of it

Hello there,

I can see the problem that will be created if this keeps on going like you mentioned.

Eventually the resource will be finished, and nothing will be left to live for and instead of working together all will be fighting together.

The best thing to do is to research on special plantages. Like a specific type of rawmaterial that can be used there and grown there.

As it is even the forest and bamboo supplies are depleating fast.

So the best possible thing that I would do is to talk with the government, perhaps they would be interested in a project that is in the interest of all.

The best way to use the hills is to find a resource that can be grown their and supply the surounding industry.

Hope that helps you out on this regards.

I have a friend from there, and he want to buy a small hill near his house, just for RMB 50,000. Owning a hill even a house in city is proud thing in China, I admire him that he have enough money to buy the hill.
However, I'd rather point out when we make up our mind to buy a hill, should we take into account what that we could benifit from it. Do you think it over? Don't jump to conclusions!

My family owns several Mountains and farming lands
in my hometown!

But the only way we can do is to ask a Relative to
buy some new and small trees to plant on it!
And then we can wait and see when we need some woods
for making our own furnitures and windows, we will start
to log them!

However, There is not one who would take serious care of these mountains, You always can find someone log and mae fairwood from our mountains, In the old time, there would be a group arguing between wood-stealer and our family if this happens.
But nowadays, We don't have such an effort to do that, just hoping that They won't do it overwhelmingly!

About Our farming land, we have lease them to other farmers,
with the benifit of giving us back some harvest from the land , about
some hundreds kg of rice per mu!

.......
It is great memory, you can visit a mountain belongs to your family
when you are back to your hometown!
