Escrow and Alipay, which do you prefer ?
Post 1 of 20
Some foreign buyers strongly request the payment by Escrow. However, Escrow is still not popular at all in China. Most of us know nothing about Escrow ( www.escrow.com ), does Escrow have and branches in China?
We're familiar with Alipay (www.alipay.com). and I always buy goods via Alipay at Taobao company. AliPay™, a division of Alibaba.com, enables individuals and businesses to securely and conveniently send and receive payments online. AliPay™ is a service tailored to meet the local needs of China, building on the existing financial infrastructure of bank accounts and credit cards, and utilizing proprietary fraud prevention systems to create a safe payment solution.
Apparently, Alipay plays the same role in payment in China as Escrow does in the USA. The problem is that I don't think there are many foreigners knowing much about Alipay at present.
What's your opion ?

Actually that isn't the roadblock to using AliPay. The biggest roadblock is the fact that there is no support in english which is where the suppliers from China are trying to sell their goods.
There is no difference between escrow and recieving payment via T/T. All escrow does is afford small buyers a chance to inspect the goods before the seller is paid. In fact it is a guarantee the the supplier will be paid or his merchandise will be returned to them at the buyers expense. Its true that escrow will not do business with banking institutions from some countries. I know of several companies from Alibaba and other B2B sites in China that accept escrow. In fact the only reason not to accept it is if the supplier is selling fakes or items of such low quality that they don't want the scrutiny of someone inspecting goods before they get paid.
Actually I have posed the question to Alibaba about why AliPay™, is not supported on this site nor is it supported in english. But actually since I have no response from them it would seem to be a legal issue, as my understanding of the use of it on Taobao is because the sellers are partnered with that service, where on Alibaba.com sellers are not.

Paypal is good, but it's still unconvenient for local Chinese ( Mainland China ) to withdraw any payment from Paypal directly at present. So it's not a best choice for Mainland China users.
I know Alipay is trying to promote abroad and work with other companies in the overseas market at present, hoping it can be as good as Paypal soon in the near future!

Tentatively the existance of Escrow are based on supply and demand " what wrks best to Governance... the popularity of lipay will sustain any and all Business Invenory in which would be brought forward from the Business Executives making a good and sound sage/safe and secure to soft sale ; soft close any transaction.

You are right - but Alipay is attempting to launch services for english users in the near future - I think they're going to have a real go at competing with Paypal - I hope that is the case as it would certainly benefit many buyers dealing with Chinese sellers
