SGS or any other inspection agency will do the quality and quantity inspecition as per our requirement. If we need to do upto shipping they will do and gie the certificate.
On handing over the goods to the shipper they will give the certificate after the customs insepctions.
Sometimes we have to engage our representative upto shipment into the container. In this we will get perfection adn satisfication

Normally it should be good enough, as SGS (or similar), by putting their signature on the certificate, guarantee that the goods are as per what you require and have instructed them to check for.

Generally , yes - SGS testing have a reputation to keep but is meaningless if what you need is not what they have done. If you want them to guarantee that the goods shipped is 100% in accordance to the samples given and approved - it is going to cost you like * and lots of problems.
Be clear and concise in your requirement , what inspection level - for general use 3.5 or stricter standard Mil 1.0. What are your majors and minors for the item and best that you list them out so that they test in accordance to your requirement in addition to the country's safety requirements.
Normally after working together for sometime - the other company's own Inspection certificate is good enough but if for customs and safety requirements - the SGS cert would be preferable.. Hopes this helps.

Hello there
You have not mentioned whether for what purpose you need SGS certification.
Do you need to check the quality of the product? Or you need SGS to supervise loading.
Following are the activities of SGS
1. Certification
2. Inspection
3. Outsourcing
4. Risk management
5. Testing
6. Technical consultancy
7. Training
SGS carry the inspection of following business lines
1. Agriculture
2. Automotive
3. Consumer Testing
4. Environment
5. Governments and Institutions
6. Industrial
7. Minerals
8. Oil, Gas & Chemicals
The objective of Loading Supervision is to verify during loading and unloading operations that the correct material is properly handled and secured on the means of transport. SGS specialists provides the client with the assurance that the quality and safety requirements are met and that the goods are handled correct and safely.
Before the issuance of a survey report or certificate, the following inspections may be carried out:
1. Checking the general appearance of the cargo and/or packaging.
2. Verifying the number of packing cases and the marking against the contractual specifications.
3. Checking the appropriate handling during all loading and unloading operations.
4. Checking the general cleanliness of the means of transport such as the hold, the railway wagon, cargo plane or the ship deck.
5. Checking the stowing, fastening and wedging on the means of transport, and the protection against the natural elements.
6. Checking the loading documents.
It will not be feasible for you to personally visit the supplierÂ’s country to carry the inspection each and every shipment hence in such case you have to give clear cut instructions to SGS, BV, Cotecna or any other inspection company that what type of inspection, testing, supervision they need to carry.

There are many professional quality control companies in HK and they have branches in Guangzhou And Shenzhen city. Many clients from Germany point them as their long term inspectors. And they issue inspection report for each order before shipment.

Hi Juliana,
I read your artical every time and found that it is very useful for international biz. Presently I want a solution from you as below-I am intent to take an transferable and confirmed at sight LC from HSBC Bank,Bangladesh and it would be advise to my by ICICI Bank which will be the first advisory bank of it in India with authority for making transfer of LC.The LC will have clause for accepting Third party document and thrid party BL.
Now I want to transfer the LC to second beneficary in another city in India by opening an new LC with as it is terms as original LC but by reducing-
1-In value
2-Shipping period
This LC will show us as Applicant.
On this base when second beneficary would made shipment the BL will show him as Exporter,Consignee to order of and Notify to actual Importer or keep blank ( as we dont want to disclose the name of buyer)He will send this BL and other certificates plus his Invoice to us.We will change his Invoice and will put our Invoice and packing list .All other certificates and BL will remain as it is.
Now the question is that-
1-Does Opening/Confirming Bank reject the documents as BL(and other cerificates) will show exporter another party then beneficary of original LC.However in LC self has a cluase for accepting the third party BL and documents.
2-if LC has above third party clause then does it mean that all documents should be of Third party.I mean first beneficary can not put his Invoice and packinglist instead of second benefiacry Invoice and packing List.Or Third party documents acceptable means that exporter can put his Invoice and poacking list plus second beneficary's BL and other certificates like weight certificate,SGS report and does bank will treat it as OK .
Kindly suggest us what would be correct and what clause we must keep in original LC to avoid any nonpayment under above trade practise.
Thanks and regards
Your faithfully
Sanjay Kumar
