bed sheets
Post 1 of 10
i am interested in ordering bed sheets for retail. I have been contacted by many suppliers. I have done quite a bit of research on that topic and I have learnt a lot re: types of cotton, and other materials, fiber lengths, ply, ginning, roving and so on. However that is not enough to speak intellignetly to the suppliers many of whom are asking for my requirements.
Would any one who have dealt in that area kindly give me some kind of indication as to what I should be requiring, and specification of products especially in 100 cotton and cotton blend bed sheets in all sizes. How would I be able to determine that some of the info specification and measurement are acceptable norms and decent quality. Help please anyone with knowledge or any advise

Replying to [beloved]:Normally for bed sheets the specifications are 30x30 76 x 68 but different width applicable.
1) 153 to155
2) 220
3) 240

But since these specification may vary from country to country hence the supplier is asking you your specification. Various blends are also available alongwith 100 % cotton. Polycotton in different percentage. Hence it is always advisable for supplier to make as per buyer specification.

Hope it will serve your purpose, if you need some more information contact me via TM.

Hi beloved,

Usually people would consider the following basic factors:
1. cotton -- normal cotton? long staple or not? Egyptian cotton? or Pima/supima? 2. open end vs ring end
3. yarn size 4.thread count 5.pigment printing vrs reactive

There are a lot of books introducing spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing. I believe you could get deep understanding from these books.

I'm in the US and you could ask me more info if you want.

Good luck!

Julie

Hi,

a) its important for you to see which country you are planning to retail in, as different countries have different qualities and styles of bedsheets that are sold.

b) also you need to identify what segment you are targeting, low cost, medium cost or high end.

c) Then, just go into a existing retail store, buy a few products of the segment that you are targeting, and you will get all the information from the packing material and composition details about the contents of the product. There should also be information about the quality norms.

Also, ask the supplier if he has supplied to anyone in your country before and what certifications he has provided them.

I am an exporter of home textile products based in India. We used to export bed linen earlier, but now we concentrate mainly on Table linen and Floor cushions. Many times we ask our buyer their target price and then provide them with specifications of the product that will fit in their budget.

Hope this helps.

Sumeet

DEAR SIR,

I WOULD LIKE TO TRY TO ANSWER YR QUESTION.

IN BED SHEETS BUSSINESS, IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE ACTUAL REQUIREMENT OF USER/PURCHAISER'S, QUITE TRUE, QUALITY DEPENDS ON PRICE. BUT TECHNICALLY IF YOU WANT TO SPEAK WITH MANUFACTURER THEN YOU MUST KNOW THE CONSTRUCTION OF FABRICS. WHICH MASURE IN THREAD COUNTS. THREAD COUNTS IS NOTHING BUT THE NUMBER OF THREADS USED IN WRAFT WAVING PLUS NUMBER OF THREADS USED IN WEFT WAVINGS, THE TOTAL OF WRAFT + WEFT = THREAD COUNT. AND ALSO IMPORTANT TO ASK ABOUT THE NUMBER OF THREAD. (NUMBER OF THREADS MEANS ONE THREAD HAVE HOW MANY NUMBER OF TINNY FIBERS CONTAINS GIVES U THE THREAD NO#.

THE FINEST QUALITY IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN CALCULATED IN 300T (300 THREADS) OR 280T (200THREADS)

PLS REPLY IF MY REPLY HELPS U.

THANKS/AHMED ALI ATIF
