Chuyitian - Direct exporting is when you sell directly to the foreign end user, foreign distributor or agent without using the service of an intermediary. Indirect exporting is when you sell your product through an intermediary. The intermediary can be an Export Management Company, Export Trading Company, distributor, wholesaler, retailer or even an agent.  Choosing a channel will depend on the type of product, availability of intermediary in the country that you want to export and the control that you want to have in the export process. For example, if you are going to sell indirect you might loose some control of the export process only because you will have a middleman that will be part of the process.  Often small companies sell through intermediary because they can leverage the network established by the intermediary to sell their product
